I am from Portland, Oregon and work as an artist and movement therapist. I am a clean and considerate person and respect other peoples property as I would my own.
This cozy basement apartment is exactly as described. James was in communication quickly and had someone meet us to let us in and show us aroung (he was not available himself). The pantry was stocked with basics for breakfast, which was great because we got in a bit later in the day, so were all ready for the next morning.
The kitchen is well-equipped, everything clean and tidy. There are occupants above you, though they were generally quiet during the night-time.
The "handbook" has some basic information about Milwaukee and Portland and getting around, along with the "House Rules."
James (email hidden)! Greeted us with Trader Joe's goodies and helped us out with suggestions on where to eat in town. The suite is very nice and cozy and in a lovely area...10 minute drive to downtown. Thank you for a fantastic weekend in Portland! Would highly recommend James' suite as a place to stay in Portland.
This was the first time I've stayed a second time at an airbnb rental. How fun! James had it all prepared and it was like coming home to an old friend's house--he (email hidden) and a great person to know. So when I said I would definitely stay here again I meant it and I did! James' place is five stars on my Portland list!
Loved the quaint Charming Cozy basement apartment for it's homey feel. It was so nice to explore all of Portland and Mount Hood during the day and then come back to a homebase in the charming suburbs. James (email hidden), very attentive and provided us with some Trader Joe's treats, too. If you're OK staying outside the city --which I usually prefer-- then you should try this place out. And the price can't be beat for all that you receive! Thanks James!
Pro: Kind host, lots of space, great price, quaint area, good local feel
Con: A little off the beaten path, Some noise since it is a basement
It was great to stay at James Aparment, he even served organic breakfast food - we loved the individual style of the apart and the that James even had time to show us around the city. Thanks a lot for the great two days in Portland.
One of the best airbnb places I've stayed. James (email hidden). It's been like staying with an old friend, so comfortable and such a perfect balance of attention and privacy. The place is perfect for what we needed, very clean, very cozy and just a total pleasure to come home to after a long day at work, we were on business so it was very relaxing and distraction free. James has this place so well set up we had every amenity we needed and then some. I would stay here again in heartbeat.
Very good location in Milwaukie, only 15 minutes easy drive to downtown Portland. Walking distance to charming, creaky downtown with a provincial movie house, antiques shops, gorgeous French chocolatier, adorable coffee shops, and cute eateries. Milwaukie has TWO bowling alleys, both walking distance from the (website hidden) of all, it's a 7-minute walk to the beautiful river-front park with views and trails and the crisp air of fast-flowing water. If only it was biking weather!
My elderly mom took the windowless room with the big bed with lovely frilly pillows and fluffy comforter, and I slept in the comfy living room on the futon. It being winter, we had to keep the space heater on all night, but the blankies are quite warm.
The little kitchen does it all with sink, 4-burner stove, coffee set up and toaster oven and plenty of good pots/pans and dishes to cook real meals. James left us a wonderful starter array of fruit, coffee and milk and more which was great (email hidden) Eve arrival.
Bathroom is clean and perfectly petite in proportion but not cramped, although a large bodied person may find it a bit tight. Great shelves for clothes and toiletries, and nice fluffy towels.
Great convenience of washer/dryer on the same floor.
It IS a basement room, and people live above, so it's got some noise, but everything got quiet by 11pm every night which was fine for us and we slept in every day since it was a vacation! The upstairs neighbor can also be texted if it's too loud when they play music (actually play, not just playing CDs). I'm sure he'll be famous some day, since he just got signed. There is no TV or radio in the flat, so it's good to have a device for music and a good book.
James is a very responsive host, easy to reach, quick to respond. I'm sure we'll be back at Christmas again! Our Starlight Express train arrived late into Portland on Christmas Eve and James met us later than expected with nary a word of reproach. Yay!
Wonderful guest, very pleasant, friendly and intelligent.
Thank you for staying in Downtown LA Loft!
