I''ve been living in Rio since 2007, working as a freelance journalist, copywriter, translator and teacher.
My girlfriend Ludmilla moved to Brasilia for work in 2012, since then Airbnb has helped us pay a few bills and make some great friends!
We spent two days in Mark's appartment in Copacabana. It was very pleasant to stay in his place which is well localisated and nice.
Mark was also a great host for us, with a lot pieces of advice for visiting the city.
We really recommand this peacfull accomodation as much the appartement as the host.
Claire and Corentin
Mark and Ludmila were excellent guests, very friendly and simpathetic. They left the room very clean and were very easy to communicate with. And they also liked to stay with us so they will be back within a few days. We want to recommend them to everybody!
Mark was an excellent guest and anyone would be lucky to have him. He is a journalist for the Wall Street Journal and he is very friendly, interesting and responsible.
Markus Wallaby Junior...I am sure that last trip to India has made him more than human....currently residing in Rio de Janeiro ...tough life but someone has to do it...I have been best friends with Mark for some 20 years...we have shared some amazing travelling adventures since meeting in London all those years ago...and I can say Mark has enjoyed every minute of it!!!...I am an Australian and Mark was especially inspired by my tales of the intricacies of Australian culture and the plight of the Aboriginal civilization against the brutal English oppression....!!! had to add that one in Markus!!!Mark has lived in Rio for some time now and has become a local...he is a very good host and very generous reliable and dependable, which in Rio can be crucial ....I once witnessed him help a very agitated English backpacker who was trying to communicate in a pharmacy and couldn't speak the language...Mark organised for her to see a dermatologist which wasn't easy to find....services can be very difficult in Rio...Mark has extremely good local knowledge and also helped her....it turned out she needed the treatment....just an example of how Mark is...he is still very British...so will probably offer you a cup of tea on your arrival....
I've stayed at Mark's place several times, his place now in Copacabana is perfectly located and the flat is spacious, comfortable, and has all modern conveniences. Mark is a great host, and a thoroughly trustworthy and dependable guy. I've known him for more than 30 years (!), he is very smart, witty, and friendly, so meeting him is an experience in itself. He speaks several languages, works as a journalist and is currently working on a novel which is going to be a huge hit. He has lived in Rio for several years now and can give you excellent advice on your trip, and show you the best spots. Be sure to stay at Mark's place if you have the chance!
