We can definitely recommend staying at Paula's place. Paula was a generous and gracious hostess, who greeted us with a wonderful dinner when we arrived. She made us feel instantly at home in her beautiful apartment. Her flatmate Maria is also really lovely. The apartment itself is very well located near 81st subway station and the Museum of Natural History, so key sites were in easy access.
The bed in the loft was sooo comfortable. In fact it was so comfortable that it was dfficult to get out of bed in the morning! Only one thing to be mindful of is that the loft doesn't allow you to stand up fully (I think this is common in a city with retrofitted apartments), but this is a minor issue in light of all the good aspects of staying here. Thanks again for hosting us Paula, and making our first Air BnB experience a great one!

Location, location, location. I can't think of anywhere better to stay in New York than the Upper West Side, where Paula's apartment is. So unexpectedly relaxed, quiet and beautiful, with all the amenities you could need just around the corner: cafe, shop, laundrette, chemist, hairdresser, bus stop, subway station! It's also a 1 min walk to the amazing Central Park. The apartment itself is up one short flight of stairs, is compact, but much bigger than I was hoping for in NYC. It's clean, well decorated and has everything you need (kitchen, bathroom, sitting-dining area, 2 low-ceilinged mezzanine double-beds). Paula was fantastic to deal with and, as she was working abroad when I was there, the friend of hers we dealt with while in NY couldn't have been nicer or more helpful. In summary: safe, quiet location, great apartment, and great service. I'd heartily recommend it to anyone.
We really enjoyed our stay in Paula's apartment. It certainly is a great location. Short walk to Central Park, Natural History Museum and Metropolitian Museum of Art. Also close to shops, supermarket and restaurants. Close also to subway. Paula's apartment was lovely, well decorated and clean and really suited us - a couple and a teenage daughter. She had her own space. Paula also arranged to have someone collect us at the airport which was really convenient as we arrived a bit late. All in all a great holiday and nothing negative to say about Paula's apartment.
This was my first Airbnb experience and my first trip to New York. Although I never met Paula in person (because she too, was on vacation) she made all arrangements for me to easily get the keys and had a friend of hers help me settle into her place. Both Paula and her friend were very courteous, helpful and available. I live in the countryside of Southern California and visiting New York can be an intimidating experience for a first-timer like myself, but I felt safe and relaxed in her peaceful upper west side apartment. I had no problem feeling at home, especially the first couple of nights when I was by myself before my husband and friends flew into NY.
The neighborhood was perfect and close to everything I needed like groceries, shops, Central Park and the subway. After a full day of Manhattan sight-seeing and exploring, I was happy to return to Paula's apartment to settle down. A Manhattan friend of mine worked at a restaurant a block away and he couldn't believe the deal I got on Paula's apartment for the week. I even felt very safe walking the neighborhood at night which I didn't think would be possible in New York.
I would highly recommend renting from Paula in the future! She is professional and makes sure her apartment exceeds expectations. I'll definitely contact her first when I book my next New york vacation!
Paula took our booking for 3 nights at short notice, for which I was very grateful. We did not meet Paula but she was very easy to communicate with by phone and email and was very helpful and friendly. The person who was to let us in was not there so we went around the corner and had dinner in a restaurant while we waited to be contacted that she had arrived.
Paula's place was quiet, compact and very clean. It is up one flight of stairs, not the ground floor as expected, but that was not a problem for us, The kitchen was tiny but fully functional. The bathroom was fantastic - clean, bright and with a great showerhead and bath. The main loft. up a small spiral staircase, has an extremely comfortable mattress and has room to stand and move around. The second loft was a platform with an air mattress that you would have to crawl onto and was without a railing - I was glad we did not have to use it but I'm sure it would be fine for many people. Obviously you can't take your suitcase up to either bedroom.
The location was perfect for all things upper west side and also very close to the subway. There were lots of good restaurants and bars in walking distance.
One problem was that there was no cable tv and in fact no tv at all, which was not as advertised. When I inquired about it on arrival Paula said it had been ordered, so I suggest checking first that it is in fact there.
