Great alternative to the stuffy and overpriced Homestead. Fantastic Value for money. The house is pretty large, master bedroom is huge, with massive bathroom. This is an old house that has been renovated well and restored while still preserving the history. Next door is a lovely restaurant and pub, but suggest booking in advance due to its popularity. We were here when there was almost 2ft of snow, and it was beautiful. Drive from DC was pleasant too, only 3,5hrs / 200 miles.

I spent a lovely week in the cabin, and it met all of my expectations. Steve was extremely responsive and immediately answered the one or two questions I had that came up over the course of my stay. I recommend this place to anyone looking for an escape.
We had a lovely stay at the cottage over New Years. The surroundings area is beautiful and the cottage was clean, well-kept, and lovely. While there was no AT&T service, the wifi in the house worked very well. We had a very nice meal at the restaurant next door as well. It's a perfect place to stay if you want to get away and enjoy nature and the countryside. We would definitely recommend the cottage to friends.
My family and I enjoyed a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday in this very special cabin. It's comfortably appointed, charming, cozy without being small, and in a beautiful location. Steve was very easy to coordinate throughout the process. Check in and check out were a breeze; the cabin was clean; everything worked. We loved the view, the walks, the ambience!
the most amazing 30th birthday i could have ever asked for! beautiful surroundings, beautiful (comfy!) cabin, most amazing adventures close by! thank you, thank you, thank you!
One of my most favorite Airbnb experiences yet. An amazingly beautiful cabin with a historic and romantic story. As often happens, the decor, the books, the feel of the home itself leads me to believe I'd get along well with the owners, like I was staying at a friend's house. So comfortable. Yet totally jealous of how cool this home actually is! ;) We'll just have to count our lucky stars that we get to share it, even if just for one night. To add some practical detail, and not just gush- owners were quick to respond to a last minute request, and the house was as best prepared for us as we could have expected- which is both remarkable and appreciated. I'd much rather have a great place to stay that may not be 100% put together, than be denied the opportunity due to catching the owners late. They're obviously professional in their operation of the property, employing housekeeping, keeping the home stocked with movies and toys for kids, a well appointed honor bar, many changes of sheets and towels, and a ton of firewood. Due to their forethought we didn't catch them with their pants down with out late booking. The home itself seems to want to take care of you. Because of, and not of in spite of this professionalism we were totally at home. No cold hotel feel to the management style. Other guests should be aware that despite some pretty wonderful creature comforts, the cabin is, well, a cabin. We visited in November and it was cold. COLD. The cabin is at (or near) the top of the mountain ridge and the wind whips around like mad. The location couldn't be more beautiful, granted, but it's pretty exposed. We knew what we were getting into, and were stoked to be away from TV, cable, internet, etc. (well, there is a TV in the kids room in the old cabin, but I think just for movies. We weren't tempted). There is heat in the new addition and two fireplaces, one for each structure. The newer addition part of the home is not very well insulated, so we ran the heat and burned the fireplace at the same time until we headed off to bed. Speaking of exposed- there isn't a curtain in the place. With no neighbors really to speak of we didn't miss them, but others might! No sleeping through that beautiful dawn- not for too long, anyhow. We both have AT&T, and despite most of the entire area minus The Homestead hotel being entirely without service, Airport road and the cabin had phone and 4G service, which was a relief. It did, however, make for a rather confusing approach once service dropped out and the GPS tried desperately to reroute, and just actually managed to lose the location altogether. And I know the area somewhat! We were headed into town (Hot Springs) for groceries first, anyways, and stopped at the Homestead hotel to borrow some...
What a special place! I very much enjoyed my stay - the layout was great and so were the views! It felt like I was in the middle of nowhere but then there were so many close hikes and beautiful spots that I could get to quickly.
This place is amazing! The photos do not accurately describe the charm and beauty. The location is remote with incredible views. The home is old world meets new with everything you will possibly need to escape. We hope to return before the home is sold.
A lovely property in an ideal setting - we will definitely be back someday!

You want Lainie to come to your house! She is warm and kind, madly people-perceptive, and loves to see and do new things. She will add light and happiness to any space she stays.
