I have been living in China for 10 years and works in the automotive industry. I speak fluent Chinese, English and French.
Welcome to the Little House!
The stay at Davids apartment was fine. The photos are a true reflection of his apartment. We did not see David much as he left early and was home late. His explanations of house rules was clear and communication easy. The cat was friendly and not a bother. There are many little bars and places to eat close by. It was a very quiet. The bed is a double so not suited for couples who like larger beds.
Todo perfecto y según lo especificado por el anfitrión, pequeño problema con el wifi ajeno al anfitrión, estancia cómoda y limpia como para repetir.
David's place is very well located, has a nice personal touch and we enjoyed our time there. It can get a bit cold in Shanghai during this time of the year, but the heating and extra blankets made up for it. The cat was very friendly and made us feel welcome.
The Little House of French consession is located in really nice neighbourhood and cosy place, deeper from the street, allowing a visitor to feel a bit of local when passing these rows of private yards.
Our host David took best care to assure smooth communication beforehand and accepting our arrival even late midnight. House usage was clearly explained so that we had no problems to maintain our privacy and understand how the basic equipment works. We managed to stay here even during the New Years eve, without any issues of noice, cold or other.
As for the comfort, it was not of any particular luxury, but completely enough of everything kindly provided, from towels, heaters to breakfast fruits, drinking water etc.
Thanks David for sharing his house and allowing us to experience Shanghai from this very local perspective.
David is a friendly and helpful person...if you decide to stay in his place you will enjoy a traditional Shanghai neighborhood! Well located and close to many restaurants and bars
The little house is a lovely place to stay, it was great to have our own area with sofa, bathroom and also bedroom. The location is perfect, nestled in a residential cove but so close (walking distance) to a bar street, restaurants and metro in the French Concession.
The only downside was that it was quite cold - but we were given a heater and extra blankets.
If I was returning to Shanghai I would happily stay here again! Unfortunately I did not get to meet David himself, but he arranged for us to meet his friends which was extremely useful, and it meant we had the whole place to ourselves for no extra cost!
Great stay in Shanghai with David - we got to the apartment without any trouble late at night after flying to Shanghai. Everything worked as described. The neighborhood is a mix of expats and long-time Shanghai residents, and it has a real community feel while still being easy to navigate for non-Chinese speakers. Very walkable, easy to get to public transportation, range of food options from hole in the wall to Western-style.
David was an entertaining and friendly host with lots of experience in China. We never cooked, although did bring fruit and there were knives, etc for dealing with that. The sleeping area is in a loft upstairs, cozy but guests should be careful not to hit their heads. Oh, there was also an adorable cat adept at getting in and out through the window...occasionally meows a bit, generally no trouble at all.
