je recommande vivement le surf lodge pour profiter du vrai bali
Once in a while you come across those very few places where you feel at home right away and feel astonished at the same time by the amazing place and the warmth of the host. Carlos is a remarkable friendly, talented and open person that seems to be loving life to the fullest. We will never forget his warm welcome and his way of sharing good stories, tips and goods. Also, Wayan Adik, a friend of Carlos, is a great person to go with for day trips. We're sure to come back in the near future and enjoy Carlos, the talking bird, the villa and the surf again!
Oh what a magical place! I was in love with everything about the 'Surf House' but to be honest it wasn't the place that captured me on its own (although it does do that regardless) but rather the energy and love that came with the whole 'family' that reside there (Carlos and his staff). Carlos is one of the kindest souls I've ever met. It was like having my very own Dad in Bali. He made sure I was ok everyday. As it rained for most of my time in Uluwatu (which was like a cosy cleansing blissful hug) I spent alot of my time just chilling around his property. And as I opted not to rent a scooter (it would be more ideal with one but all is walking distance if you enjoy proper walking aka 20mins downhill to the beach but a big fat half hour UPHILL home or an easy 20,000 rupiah scooter taxi) he drove me to get groceries, meet a friend of his, showed me all the sights and where to eat, brought me rambutans straight from his tree each day, introduced me to the 'King of all fruits' the Durian and even came out on his scooter one night when he thought it was too dark for me to walk back. He wasn't sure where I had decided to have dinner so had been in and out of restaurants telling them they must scooter me back should I come in to eat. Too lovely for words! And he did find me just before I commenced the uphill climb, thank you universe!! I can't recommend Carlos' home and his beautiful property enough. I was very fortunate that I was the only one staying there at the time so had free run of the pool but I imagine it would be lovely to meet others when the other two bungalows are also full. He also booked a driver for me to head to the East Coast after my time down South which was super convenient (as well as having his driver at the airport when I arrived). Carlos it was such a pleasure to meet you and I hope you're still enjoying the green smoothies for breakfast! Yes, I introduced Carlos to green smoothies .... I still need to send you the recipe via email :). Much love x x x
I wanna go back! Carlos is an amazing host. He picked me up in Jimbaran and showed me around the neighborhood in order to make sure I was comfortable. I stayed in the cottage which is simple but tastefully decorated. Fan & airco, comfortable bed, good internet, fresh fruit at arrival, and fresh water dispenser. From out of the cottage you don't have the amazing view which you have from the main house & pool, so if that is what you want you should book one of the other rooms. Also, you are in a remote area, lot's of nature so do expect some natural visitors as gekko's, flies and frogs. I loved it as it was exactly what I needed. Perfect place to chill out at the pool, read, study, write and explore the nice beaches (Padang Padang, Balangan, Uluwatu). Carlos, big thanks for your hospitality. Hope to be back.
Our stay at this bungalow has been amazing. The tranquil, peaceful and beautiful place is worth visiting. Carlos gives you all the information you need and we felt like being home and welcome. The ladies who clean your bungalow and the driver became our friends. The personal touch made the difference. Thank you so much Carlos. We hope to see you soon!
Carlos is such an amazing host and his house is magical...
Set just out of the main streets so it's truly peaceful and the view will blow you away.
I would love to stay here again:)
The first days of my vacation were dedicated to serious laziness and the Lodge was perfect place for that. Lots of places to read and fall asleep – with a splendid view! The top terrace with hammock was my favorite. Lots of space and light, and did I mention the view already? And the pool? And the view from the pool? The design is simple, rustic and still somehow very modern. I'd say it was a kind of luxurious, Carlos said it's more like hippie, but we're probably both right.
Carlos was a great, helpful host, which made my laziness so very, very easy! Thanks again!
One will find two very unique, worldly personalities. Carlos, a very established painter, and his son, Falkwyn, an equally established photographer who try their best to keep themselves low key despite their talents! Both have hosted us over a 9 day period in Uluwatu.
They have two to three helpers, of whom were patiently waiting at the airport for us despite delays at immigration. Carlos took the time and trouble to welcome us, and show us around the entire area upon our arrival, despite the rain! Everything was perfect - our motorcycles were waiting for us, so was our accommodation - clean and neatly pressed sheets/towels - very much hotel like in detail!
Throughout our stay, Carlos and Falkwyn were always concerned with our welfare and that everything was taken care of - from food when it was raining, to ponchos/raincoats.
Rest assured, anyone who comes by their way will be in good hands. Especially if you're a surfer AND a food junkie - recommendations on where to eat and surf were always spot on!
Thank you once again, Carlos/Falkwyn - we'll definitely be back!!!
A throwback of what the real Bali was like before the teeming villas and condotel began to infect Kuta/Legian and Seminyak and ever expanding into Kerobokan/Canggu.
Really pleased this place has retained the natural beauty and simplicity that is uniquely Bali. Complete with stunning views and easy access to beautiful beaches.
Its unpretentious, but yet simple and elegant and a real testament to what Carlos, the artist and surfer, has achieved.
In a rapidly changing world and landscape, the Surf Villa is a hidden gem and may it always be so..
