Hi there! I'm a doctoral student in English originally from the deepest reaches of South Jersey, educated in Baltimore and DC, and currently residing in Northampton, Massachusetts. In addition to being in grad school and reading All Of The Books, I'm a longtime knitter, a cat owner, a novice gardener, a union leader/activist, a former musician, and a dedicated coffee snob. Things that make me happy include (but are not limited to) art museums; gritty port cities that have retained their own character-- think Baltimore and Philadelphia; flea markets, farmer's markets, and thrift stores; a good aimless wander; friendly debates about Marx, political aesthetics, etc; just about anything that has been skillfully handcrafted; and used book stores.
An experienced solo traveler, I'm generally go-with-the-flow, happy, and introspective when on the road. As a guest, I always do my best to be unobtrusive, respectful, and helpful, and most appreciate hosts who are friendly and accessible but also respect boundaries and alone time. Travel time is often reading time for me; you'll rarely see me without a book in tow if I am staying at your place. My preferred way to explore new places is to head out on foot with a general understanding of the city layout and a map close at hand just in case, but without much of a plan.
Given the option, I will just about always choose to stay in a place with at least one resident cat in it.
