Good location, clean and relax place !
The Bungalow are clean and equipped with TV cable. After the fullmoon I was very happy to stay there relax, and the plus is that they are located just 5 min away walking from the piers, so no need to bother with a taxi.
Staff is nice and respectfull.
Beach is 1 min walking and you can see the boats leaving :)
Nice place,might come back.
We only stayed here because it was close to the airport and we only stayed overnight. the place is small and the bathroom was dirty and needs repair. It was a tight squeeze. I didn't like staying inside the room or using the bathroom. I was very claustrophobic hear and was glad we only spent a short night there. the only highlight was the restaurant across the street, shambala. We were happy to leave the next morning.
Pictures don't do this place justice. It's very quaint and cute, just a peak out the front door to see the beautiful beach within a few steps. If you want sleek and fancy western luxury, go elsewhere. But if you want authentic beachfront cozy bungalow to rest your head & soul for a few days or weeks, this place is PERFECT, especially because it sits on such a beautiful beach. It's right in the middle of everything too, while still being quiet & private. We walked to Thai massage places & even to the pier to catch the boats going to Ko Phangan & Ko Tao. Needed a taxi to get to the airport though, but still not too far from that either. This place is an all around winner, convenient to plenty of food, massage, bars, & fabulous beaches. It sits between very high end resorts too. The exact way that we wanted to experience & remember our days in Ko Samui, Thailand.
The good :
At Sunset Resort, our very reasonably priced bungalow was right by the beach. Our first morning we were pleased to wake up to the sounds of the waves at high tide, as well as some local bird song. The on-demand water heater means the shower never ran out of hot water while I washed away sea-salt and sand. And the Bangrak location was conveniently located within walking distance of restaurants, bars, convenience stores, a scooter rental -- while managing to be at least slightly less touristy and chaotic than the main Chaweng area.
The not-quite-as-good :
While the resort guests and staff were mouse quiet, the bar next door was not. Their all-night party kept us up.
Rooms and facilities were good for the price we payed. The location was beautiful, with it's own private beach and it had one of the most amazing restaurants opposite (shambala). However the hotel lacked atmosphere a bit - they had a bar and restaurant which we assumed used to be open, but it was only open one night in our month long stay. The staff were also not that friendly, or helpful - the room was only cleaned maybe 4 - 5 times in the month, and most times it was only because we requested. We also had to ask daily for water, toilet paper and clean towels and despite rarely getting one each a day (what we were entitled to) we were told towards the end of our stay that we were getting 'too much water'. Everyone else we met during our stay in thailand was always friendly and helpful, it was just a shame the staff at this hotel weren't the same. This place could be greatly improved with a few extra smiles, here and there. Overall, would recommend for a few nights, but not for long term stay.
Right on the beach, this is a lovely spot with great bungalows! There was a little confusion on check-in -- I'd recommend printing out your booking if you can, although when travelling in SE Asia that can be tricky. Anyhow, soon I was right at home... and they even had a free barbecue for us! Chicken kebobs, prawns, curry and noodles: it was a cheerful and fun evening as the waves crashed below. Bangrak beach is a good spot to stay, too -- not as loud as Chaweng or Lamai, but still plenty of stuff going on. Great swimming, and boats across to Haad Rin for the parties!
