The apartmemt is in a great location. All you need is within walking distance. State St is really nice. Three of us stayed here, so did not need to use sofa bed. Everything in the apartment worked well, but it was very hot, especially in the bedrooms, so really needs air-conditioning or fans.
It was difficult to communicate with the person who holds the keys. This led to misunderstanding about our arrival and departure times.
We where six people staying in the apartment for one week in the end of May. My parents, my husband, my one year son (we brought our own travel bed for him), myself and my brother who slept on the couch.
The size of the apartment was good; we could fit with all of our stuff and shopping finds! The beds where okay comfortable but the sofa bed was very uncomfortable.
The apartment had all what we needed in cooking utensils and so. But over all I think is in need of a good cleaning in all the cabinets and everywhere. It is somewhat run down with some broken tiles in the bathroom and in the wooden floor and with dripping pipes in the kitchen. It is okay but I guess I mind more since we had a baby crawling around.
The one big problem we had with the apartment was that is was to warm. There were no air conditioner and we did not find any fans. So it was very warm and humid to sleep, we tried to have the windows opened but then the mosquitoes came in....
The location of the apartment was great for us! It is close to the metro, shops, restaurants and cafés.
We were promised three sets of keys but did not get it when we arrived and needed to go pick up the extra keys in another area in Brooklyn. Contact with Grace was no problem; she answered quickly to our e-mails and tried to help!
My family (5 people) stayed here while they were in the city for my graduation. The apartment was very conveniently located for them. The only problem was the beds in the living room, which were remarkably uncomfortable. Perhaps this place would be better for up to 4 so as to avoid those extra beds. However, their stay was enjoyable and they would rent this apartment again.
Location - 4 stars - Excellent, right in the corner of what would be considered Brooklyn Heights, right next to Cobble Hill, Downtown, and Boerum Hill. Lots to do, lots nearby and great subway access. As for stores, coffee shops, groceries and some really cool housewares places and kids shops within two blocks.
Building - 2-3 stars - Decent condition, friendly neighbors. The heat went out during our stay in January, the hot water was obviously in high demand and was mostly unavailable if you wanted to shower around 7-8 am. Safe-feeling building.
The apartment itself - 1 star - At least as of March 2010, in need of some love from the owner. Some ex: Wooden floors damaged - splintering from puddles made by the spitting radiators. Drafty, cold even before the heat went out. Tiles fell off the bathroom wall during our stay. Kitchen fine, appliances fine. Maybe fine for adults for a short stay, but not ok for our planned extended stay with a toddler. We moved out early.
Apt is located in a great area, though not the typical brownstone (many apts in the building). The apt was very clean but we faced several issues: hardly if no hot water, cable tv not working and the entrance key is very tricky - hard to open./close the entrance door.
The owner was very responsive but issues not fixed though
The apartment was nice and clean. The area was great and centrally (email hidden)ar trader joe's, the promenade, parks and great restaurants. My only problem was communication with the host. There was no one there to let us in (we are a family of four with a 4 and 1 year old). Thanks to the amazing and fast acting service of airbnb, Brittany (our airbnb agent) was able to locate a second and third party to help us into the apt. Unfortunately they were not as used to the apt. so it took a while to find the right keys and open the doors. After a great weekend we were not sure where to leave the keys and how to lock the doors. We did our best with what we knew and hope that we did the right thing for Grace.
Thank you airbnb for helping us!! Because of you we were able to rest and relax in an apt. for the rest of a very long day.
The host left us a bar of baby soap for the babes. That was sweet. Clean and fresh towels, clean sheets, cable and all the amenities that you'd typically get at a hotel including wi-fi. They even had a little space heater because the furnaces weren't on and they were thoughtful about the kids.
It was very close to the movie theater, and the river walk, restaurants around the block, and trader joe's just 2 blocks away. Having laundry right outside the unit was awesome and much needed as well.
The not so good:
It took a few hours after we landed to get a hold of the host(s) and the international bike race was also going on; all the streets within a mile of the rental were completely closed off. Add luggage, 2 upset and tired babies. no bueno. We ended up spending an extra 200.00 in taxis because of this, and had to barge in on a friend who graciously let us stay until we got the keys at 7PM that night.
Apartment is in a great neighborhood, easy access to subway and all parts of NYC. There are lots of stores very close to it. Apartment itself is nice as well. Communication with owner could be better though. would recommend the apartment to my friends.
It was a really lovely apartment. The neighborhood is great and there is a lot to do.
