We spent a wonderful stay in Istanbul, mainly thanks to the lovely Petek's apartment. It's really nice and clean, well furnished, and there is everything to make us feel like at home.
Plus, the apartment is really well located, in a great neighborhood, especially to go out (so many delicious restaurants!!!). And the location is convenient to reach many interesting places in Istanbul, even by feet (if you enjoy walking!). It was really easy to find it, thanks to the indications she gives on air bnb.
Petek, we just saw on our arrival, was really helpful and this if we needed anything.
It was the perfect way to discover Istanbul!
This apartment is in a great location just a 5-min walk from Istiklal. It is comfortable and perfectly met our needs. Petek was on hand to answer any requests.
This was our first Air BnB experience and it was a great start. The flat itself is lovely, nicely decorated, good light, and all the amenities as advertised. Clean, comfortable, and a nice bathroom. Overall, the place is very charming and home-like! I would stay here again and/or recommend it to friends.
The location was ideal. A few blocks from Istiklal meant that we were near enough to enjoy the "buzz" but not so close as to feel too crowded. We walked easily to Taksim and Sultanahmet, but could also choose to take the tram at the bottom of the hill when our feet were tired. There is a little market just 2 or 3 doors down that provided all we needed for breakfast and snacks, and a second market and taxi stand conveniently at the end of the street.
In general, the neighborhood is quite hilly and steep. In addition, there are 4 flights of stairs to the apartment and no elevator. We are used to walking and stairs, but others might not be; I mention it so future guests are not surprised. Another unexpected find was a pair of earplugs placed thoughtfully at each bedside table. We understood this later, when a nearby group of restaurants had live music and singers. It was not too loud, though, and they stopped around 11pm. Also, we had the windows open because the weather was so nice, so of course it would have been quieter if we'd closed them. In any case, it wasn't a bother for us who are used to living in a city with all of its sounds throughout the day and night.
Petek was a very considerate host, even though we never actually met her in person. She was very responsive via email, and though she was out of town the weekend we arrived, she arranged for a friend to meet us. Later during the stay, she checked in via text to make sure all was OK. In the flat, she provided a laminated booklet that outlined how to work all the appliances and where to find the nearest grocery, etc. Very helpful!
A fantastic, well-appointed apartment in a great location. We stayed here for two months during the summer and felt we could not have chosen a better long-stay flat than this. Having lived in Istanbul for five years, we knew the city well and what the housing stock was like, and yet this apartment really surprised us -- in a good way. It is the perfect size for two people, is well-furnished and has all of the necessities as well as some very handy amenities -- like good air-conditioning, fast wifi, and a coffee machine. The balcony is just the right size for al fresco dining and if you fancy heading out to eat, you've got dozens of options along Istiklal and in Cukurcuma and Cihangir. On top of that, if you're late for your departing flight, the taxi rank is only a few feet away, so you don't have to lug your luggage around. All in all, it was a great place to stay. Absolutely no complaints.
Petek's apartment was the perfect fit for our family, and we really felt so lucky! The location is close to Istiklal and all of the shopping and restaurants and a five-ten minute walk to the Tophane train stop. Yes, Istanbul is hilly, but that is what makes it so beautiful! My husband, 20 month old daughter and I felt right at home in this super clean and modern apartment. She was able to get us a travel crib which was so awesome. The bedroom is super comfy with air conditioning inside it, as well as black out curtains so we slept great :)
The kitchen is sparse, but we cooked eggs and toast for breakfast and had plenty of fresh fruits and veggies available right downstairs. Petek recommended a few great restaurants including Ara near Istiklal which really was a nice break from traditional Turkish cuisine :)
Petek was so helpful, and even directed our taxi driver right to the apartment from the bus station so we didnt need to worry about a thing. She is really a great hostess!
Petek and her apartment were absolutely great. Before we even arrived in Istanbul Petek helped us get from the airport to her place with no trouble. She met us at the apartment and told us tons of invaluable information on how to get by in Istanbul. So helpful. SO nice!
The apartment was perfect for our stay. It took us 15 minutes to get to the old town for touristy sites on the rail (really easy!) and yet we were within quick walking distance from all the fun restaurants/bars/shops in Beyoğlu. The apartment itself was very clean, comfortable and pleasant. The back balcony was a nice way to take in the Istanbul mornings. I also thought it was surprisingly quiet, in relation to it's location.
In summary, nice apartment, good location and great host. I'd definitely stay again.
Beside the fact, that Petek is just an amazing and reliable host, her flat was perfectly situated. Sourrounded by tiny shops, not too far from the main Streets (within 3min walking distance) was it easy to explore Istanbul with all its faces!
The flat itself looked exactly as on the pic, perfectly clean, very spacious.... and the balcony offered a wonderful few and a nice scenery for a relaxed breakfast.
Thank you so much for having us, Petek!
C u in Vienna, sooner than later! ;)
Our colleague Huseyin, a long term architect in our Germany based international architectural company, came to Istanbul office to contribute to a project for two months. Instead of a hotel, we offered him to stay at Petek's warm and cozy apartment so that he could feel the comfort of a home. And here's how he reviewed his stay: "Petek’s place is great for people who are in town for an extended period of time for work or for pleasure. I stayed at Petek's for two months and a little longer. Being away from my family and my home town for so long wasn't easy for me. But the beautifully decorated, neat, clean and well equipped apartment - just like shared in photos- made it feel like home. Its central location makes it very convenient to get around on foot. The set up and the decoration of the flat make it very comfortable to live in. My favourite thing about staying there was the location of the apartment. I was able to meet my friends in Istiklal street - the heart of Istanbul's social life- only within 5 minutes of walk. The apartment was also 5 minutes walk to the main public transportation lines. I was able to enjoy almost all the beautiful attractions of Istanbul like Sultanahmet, Uskudar, Kadikoy and even the islands. I recommend Petek's place to solo travellers and to couples by all means."
Petek and Marco were lovely and respectful guest. I certainly recommended them as guest.
if you are a traveler on the road of life, you will love the "room with a view" experience while in turkey. after a week in a hotel and amongst the tourists of sultanamet, i walked across the bridge and into another realm—the "room with a view" experience: the real istanbul, the neighborhood grocer, the cafe around the corner, the laundry on the balconies, the local video store, the yoga place. cihangir. (you'll even learn the correct pronunciation if you stay a few days in its heart, where you will find, petek's place.) i lived there for 4 weeks (dec 2009 - jan 2010) and instantly felt at home. comfortable. stylish. affordable. accommodating. these words fit both petek and her place but don't capture the extraordinary memories i have from my time there. when asked about my 'favorite' part of turkey, i think of standing on the balcony and seeing the lights on the mosques at night and the snow covered roofs and the warmth of home far from home. that is turkey for me. teşekkür ederim, petek!
