I live in Woodstock NY and would like to take a cranial sacral class in Greenfeild Center
Casa Acuario was amazing from the location to the staff! Plus being able to dive right off the dock and into the water was terrific.
The only downside were all the sand fleas which is out of the hands of Casa Acuario as it is an island problem that we didn't experience in the room.
Thanks again for having us and hope to see you sooner than later!
Bocas is beautiful but be very weary of staying on Carenero - as others have found, the sand flies are really out in force, day-and-night. That said, jumping straight off our patio into the sea, with coral, star-fish and other pretty fish was very cool and made it well worthwhile.
There aren't many restaurants or bars on Carenero island but a $1 water-taxi made it very easy and cheap to get back to the main town. As someone mentioned already, it can be quite loud, but it never really bothered us. The way I see it, if you're on vacation, and you're not tired out after a days hiking/swimming/snorkeling/drinking, then you're not doing something right.
Finally, although the room was clean and welcoming, we felt Casa Acuario was overpriced - in fact we overheard other potential guests offered a much lower rate that that available to us (we paid $105 standard AirBnB price). Breakfast was not included, until we pushed the issue, but still felt nickle-and-dimed and for Bocas, $100 per night should go a lot further than it does at Casa Acuario.
The pluses: Acuario is beautifully situated on the water, it's charming to take a two minute boat ride to the Bocas town and the neighboring island, our room was clean, the AC and fans worked, we liked our spacious room and felt comfortable.
The negatives: it is very loud most nights with music blasting from neighboring bars. There were tons of bugs that ate us alive- they are called midges/no see ums and they are tiny but they will bite you a thousand times and then itch so badly that you think you just might go insane. You can buy oil lotions that drown the little suckers before they can sting you. Long sleeves and pants help too but you might not want to go that route in the tropics.
Joanie, the owner, wasn't here for our stay and that was too bad. We think it would have been a different experience with her here. The remaining staff were OK but not exceptionally welcoming.
Also, breakfast is available but not included.
The island Carenero on which Acuario is located, doesn't have all that much on it but does have a great restaurant called Bibi's. Most stores and restaurants are on the main island of Colon.
We stayed at Casa Acurio in January of this year and we had a fantastic stay. The property is s you see it in the picture, with the exception of the weather which was very rainy when you were there. The rooms are very well appointed and nicely decorated. All is all it is a great choice for anyone coming to this part of the world.
We were very pleased with our stay at Joanie's place and would recommend it to any prospective renter.
