John's apartment is very well located within the Upper East Side and reasonably close enough to the nearest subway station.
Even though we did not have the occasion to meet John, he has been anything but welcoming byt arranging the pick up of the keys, being very approachable by email and leaving us drinks for our arrival.
My boyfriend and I were pleased with our stay and we would definitely recommend this accommodation.
We stayed at John's apartment at Christmas- and New Year time 2012/13.
The apartment is a value for money place: It is very basic, but the price was very good, especially considering the high season time we visited. The location was just fine, a calm and safe neighborhood but also close to public transport and Central Park. The heating worked great and the water was always hot, which is very important during this time of the year.
One thing that should be mentioned is, that John's belongings are in the apartment so there is limited storage space available. For a short trip it wouldn't be a problem, but for a longer stay (like we had) it is a bit crowded.
All in all we would come back again.
I enjoyed my stay at Johns apartment. Its clean basic, comfortable not fancy but all you would need for a place to come back to and relax after a day exploring wonderful NYC. Great neighborhood, everything at your feet, food , stores, (website hidden) in the small kitchen was easy.Great hot water in shoer and kitchen.
Apt, on first floor a big plus, no stairs to climb. John was very helpful with information and generous with his food stock. A very satisfactory stay. Thanks John
John's apartment was small but cosy! It is located on the first floor, so it can get a little loud late at night/early mornings.
Otherwise its in the UES neighborhood, and a 10minute walk from 86th and Lex where the subway is located.
The tap in the bathroom was faulty during our stay, and was leaking throughout our stay. John did say the sup will be coming around to fix it though.
John was also easy to communicate with via email/airbnb/whatsapp.
To sum it all, a small but otherwise cosy apartment in a pleasant location.
Studio calme, confortable, bien équipé, bien situé. John est très accommodant et peut répondre à toutes vos questions.
This is exactly as advertised - a crash pad in a great location with everything you'd need (and where locals actually live) and a nice 10-minute walk to the #4/5/6 subway. John was a great host: text contact on day of arrival/departure, showed us in, and had towels and even bottled water prepared for us. Thanks John!
This was exactly as promised: a crashpad at the UES.
Pros: safe neighbourhood with bars, eateries and shops, nearby public transport, WIFI, and the apartment feels like a home.
Cons: it is located at the first floor, next to the entrance so it can be a little noisy in the morning/evening. The neighbours upstairs are a little noisy (wooden floors) so if you're a light sleeper, you should bring earplugs.
John was Joh a great host: text contact on day of arrival/departure, showed us in, and had towels, bottled water and even beer prepared in the fridge!
The apartment was small but very comfortable and in a great location. John was very helpful and left juice in the fridge which we appreciated. Terrific supermarket around the corner and Two Little Red Hens bakery close by on 2nd Ave is amazing. A couple of teaspoons and coffee mugs would be worth adding but the apartment was clean and met our needs.
I went to NY with my wife to run the (email hidden)en there was Sandy...which affected my holidays and caused the cancelation of the marathon for the first time in its history. However, overall it was NY, and there is always a reason to enjoy "The City".
Speaking about the apartment, I can say that is small, but certainly more than enough for a few days/weeks in the city and of course far better than an hotel room. Also, is perfectly located. In fact, now I know that actually is in such a perfect location that not even the largest storm ever recorded caused any damage to the apartment! Now seriously, the neighborhood has everything you might need and is 10 minutes walking distance from Central Park, one of my favorites places in NY.
In addition, John was an excellent host which is so important for this kind of trips, this is, finding someone willing to make your stay easier. In general I do not have any complain important worth to be written here, and I can easily say that I would stay again in his apartment and I would undoubtedly recommend him as a host.
Perfect crash pad. Intended for 1 or 2 but 3 people can fit. Pull out couch isn't terribly comfortable and makes it difficult to walk around but it serves the purpose
close location to train and many shops & restaurants
John was helpful and always responded promptly
John was a great guest. I highly recommend him. Great communication and very respectful.
Perfect guests and highly recommended. Welcome back anytime!
John and his friend were great guest! very clean, friendly tidy and with no complications. Highly recommended! Many thanks and best greetings, Bero
John is trustworthy, dependable and an overall terrific guy. I've known him for nearly 20 years, in the capacity of friend, camp counselor, mentor and colleague... he is truly a man of the people, and someone, I am sure, you will want to be in touch with for many years to come.
John is nice and respectful and neurotically clean. He would also make a good tour guide, if you catch him while he is in town.
