I own a video production company in Mexico City ((email hidden)) and I'm going for the first time to NY with my girlfriend.
Alex's place is a compact, nice but modest second story apartment in a modest, relatively quiet neighborhood less than two miles west of the Polanco district. The comfortable apt of contemporary construction is furnished in a fun, smart, family-oriented manner (think guitar hero plus hifi plus modern art lounge plus fans of The Simpsons). The Manhattan-size bedroom has a king size bed.
I found the far flung location somewhat impractical for enjoying the city's amenities as a traveller without a car, although it is close to one new top attraction, the Museo Soumaya. A pleasant, but distant walk from the nearest Metro Station (don't attempt it with luggage as I did), the immediate area has an international modern style and edge city feel.
The 2 BR, 1 bath flat is orderly but a bit dusty. The photos were faithful to the product depicted in the listing, but the space seemed significantly smaller than the 1,000 ft of area advertised. At well over $100 a night, Alex's listing is priced a bit over market, but might be a solid choice for a family with children who can use the second bedroom with kiddie bunkbeds. (The third bedroom is vacant and would work as a space for yoga.)
Alex was very responsive, flexible, and overall good to deal with.
Alex was a pleasure to have as a houseguest. I would love it if he booked a room again in the future. Alex is a trustworthy, clean, quiet and considerate person. He is a very low maintenance houseguest. If you have the opportunity to "accept" a reservation of Alex's, please do it. You will not regret it. Thanks for the gift Alex, I love it.
I did not meet Alex in person but after interacting with him via email and on the phone, and seeing how well he treated our place, I know that I'd like to meet him someday. He was extremely open and responsive with his communication and he and his girlfriend were very respectful of our place and left it very clean. A great renter that I highly recommend!
