Our stay at the Delnabo Estate was absolutely delightful - the photos were nice and quite inviting, but the real thing was breathtaking. Six of us stayed 4 nights - way too short a stay. This cottage looks deceptively tiny from the outside but is spacious, well-appointed, clean and comfortable on the inside. The cottage is located on a working estate, with hunting dogs on site, as well as field hands doing their thing just behind the trees in the photo - but no sounds at the cabin other than birds and sheep (the natural lawn mowers). Katie, the onsite caretaker, was amazing - friendly, helpful, readily available for questions, with an ever present mega-watt smile.
Downtown Tomintoul is a mile away - an adorable mountain tourist town with lots of restaurants and little shops, not far from a Scottish ski mountain, an easy drive to dozens of whiskey distilleries and larger villages suitable for groceries and other essentials.
We would return in a heartbeat!
Had a wonderful time at the cottage. Although we had just two in our party, it's a roomy space that would easily accommodate a larger family or group. A rustic serene setting with lots of hiking nearby. Thanks Tom and Katie (who kindly brought us a nip of whisky when we came down with colds after hiking in the rain!).
We arrived late in the day at this lovely cottage which was unlocked prior to our arrival as arranged. Katie checked up on us after our arrival to make sure all was well. This cottage is in the Cairngorms national park on part of the Glenlivet estate, and we fell in love with the entire area. The cottage itself is roomy, yet cozy, with plenty of room for the 5 of us. The kitchen is fully equipped, and there is a washer, no dryer, but indoor and outdoor drying racks are available. Sheets and towels were fresh, and all was vary clean and tidy. The dining area sits facing toward the pond, the river, and a large grassy area where pheasants and ducks are at home, and a small renegade flock of sheep put in an appearance now and then. A spectacular setting, and just heaven for the outdoor enthusiast.
Just around the corner and down the road is a small herd of Highland Cattle, all of whom had just had calves. The town of Tomintoul itself is tiny, but so interesting with a fine restaurant called The Clockhouse, The Whisky Castle with it's excellent and friendly staff, and several small shops, also with super friendly staff.
We hiked in the area surrounding the home and saw some beautiful views of the Highlands. I thank Tom for hosting this beautiful and unique home - some of our best memories of Scotland were made here.
What a wonderful highland getaway. the cottage was exactly as advertised, neat as a pin and clean as a whistle. You can walk to the small village of Tomintoul for dinner and a pint at the pub or groceries. Katie the caretaker made us feel welcomed and made sure we were up to speed on everything in the cottage. From this location you are in the center of the Cairngorms surrounded by forest, heather, hills, whiskey distilleries and castles. We would definitely book again.
Great week away in Tom's cottage which is in as described an 'idyllic' setting. Great walks right from the door and Katie was on hand to help if needed. We'll definitely be back!!!
We had a wonderful long Easter weekend and the cottage is indeed an idyllic highland escape. We were met at the cottage by Katie, who gave us a run through of the ropes and introduced her gorgeous 'frowning' spaniel puppy to us, much to our young Staffy and Beagles bewilderment. The location is perfect and we would highly recommend this place to anyone looking to get away from it all for a while.
Great cottage, very cosy. Prompt response from Katie regarding our initial query over heating, very quickly resolved. Area is stunning, secluded and just perfect for anytime of year. Cottage easily fit our extended family and was so homely. We would stay there again in a heartbeat.

We loved our stay at McLeod's cottage! It is peaceful, comfortable and very cozy. It had everything we needed and was clean and well cared for. Katie popped round to welcome us when we arrived and we appreciated the cookies and tea that were waiting for us! The estate and surrounding area is beautiful, a great spot for a relaxing vacation.
I've known Tom since we went to University together (from 2002), and we have kept in touch ever since. Tom loves traveling, from backpacking expeditions in remote parts of the world, to lazing around in luxury beach resorts! He is courteous, friendly, always happy to help, and is a great host. I've stayed at his house in Tomintoul and it is a really beautiful area.
