It was a great change from the dusty city to spend time among green hills with fresh air, riding bicycles and going to the beach with warm clean water, white sand and temple on the shore. The house was very clean, well protected with nets from the bugs, the host was cheerful and hospitable, and offered us fruit and food. Sleeping on a futon was comfortable and easy under a sound of frogs singing their songs at the pond and fan quietly moving air around. If you are staying in Taiwan, this is a great getaway for a night or two.
The house is absolutely lovely, japanese style, spacious and tidy. It's right in the middle of nature, but easy to reach from Fulong train station, especially since the road has quite no slope. My host were very welcoming, and offered me some delicious vegetable form the garden. There is also a small pond with lotus flowers, and a great view on sunsets from the balcony.
Staying with Tabby and her husband was a wonderful experience! Tabby and her husband were very accommodating and the most hospitable people I have ever met. They were more than happy to answer any questions and give information about the best places and ways to travel. Tabby speaks very good English, and made sure myself and my roommate knew exactly which buses to take to get to the right MRT station, and she even helped me plan a little trip to Huelian. They made sure I had enough bedding, towels, blow dryer etc. However, you should know the room is in a cafe and is a multi-use room. As I understand this is the custom in many parts of Asia. You will sleep on a mat, and must have the room cleaned before 9:30am. The cafe closes at 10pm and you may use the room for your use only after 10. This was only a slight inconvenience, as you are more than welcome to hang out in the cafe in your free time when you are not out and about. But, it can be a little daunting when you are tired from a full day of activities (which you will be as there is tons to do in the Taipei area).
