Just to clear up some misunderstandings: Cleaning fee is $65 and covers the cleaning lady who does the laundry and changes the bed linen etc. The reason why I ask renters to leave the apartment in the same condition, is because I think that's the decent thing to do when you rent someone's private home. After all this is not a hotel, and I believe renters should treat their rented home as they would treat their own. I was out of town when Dave contacted me with a photo that his wife had broken the kitchen faucet and yes renters are responsible for obvious breakage. It seems Dave is a bit miffed about this, hence his rather misleading review. In my correspondence with him, he seemed very happy. The security deposit could have been handled through Airbnb which Dave opted not to do. For the record I never said a negative review would be left, nor have I left a review for Dave.
Kate was a difficult guest from the get-go. She ignored the check-in times for my apartment and requested to receive the keys in a padlock rather than meet in person.
There is a cleaning fee for my apartment which covers a cleaning lady coming in to do laundry, make the bed etc. But I always ask to leave the apartment in the same clean state in which they found it. I asked this of Kate as well on more than one occasion and it is also written on the Welcome Letter in the apartment. That is not vague, but I guess it depends on how someone regards cleanliness. I am not exaggerating when I say that the apartment was flithy when I returned from my holiday. Bathroom and kitchen were particularly filthy and food and trash had been left behind. My sofa has candy stains on it as well. YES AS A HOST AND SINCE IT'S MY PRIVATE HOME, I DO HAVE HIGH STANDARDS AND I EXPECT GUESTS TO RESPECT THAT AND TREAT IT LIKE IT WAS THEIR OWN HOME.
Unfortunately there's sometimes a bump in the road when using Airbnb, and Kate unfortunately turned out to be just that! She decided to interpret the house rules the way she saw fit in regards to check-in times and cleanliness and as you can see in her review she's clearly not happy that I called her out on that.
