I visited the Villa Mente over Christmas and New Year's with my husband, parents, sister, and her friend and we had an unforgettable time. Before we arrived, we received superb attention from Fang, who sent us an extensive visitor's guide and promptly answered our every question. My family arrived at the Denpasar airport in a few groups and Fang arranged for drivers to meet us at the airport and bring us to the villa. When we got to the villa there was a wonderful welcome dinner awaiting us.
The villa was in the perfect location to explore northern Bali, and was a good distance from the busy tourist districts, which we were very pleased with. When we weren't lounging by the pool or exploring the nearby waterfalls, we went on day trips, including snorkeling and diving in Menjangan Island, dolphin watching, hiking in the Mayong rice fields, and a tour of Lovina (hot springs, coffee plantation, temples) with our driver. We highly recommend each of these trips. Our hosts made sure that we had all of the details that we needed and helped us coordinate each trip.
Villa Mente is set on the side of a mountain that overlooks the sea and the sunsets were incredible. This is the perfect spot if you want to get away from it all (though there's also internet service, so you're not completely cut off). My favorite part of the day was watching the sunset from the top balcony while enjoying a beautifully prepared meal with my family. We ventured to the beach by foot on a few occasions, which took about 35 minutes. Using the driver was much easier than expected and we ended up asking him to drop us off and pick us up when we wanted to go into Lovina. There are also a number of local beach restaurants that offer free taxi services, which was very convenient.
We can't recommend the Villa Mente highly enough. Though I haven't spent much time in southern Bali, my sense is that the north is much quieter and suited to visitors who are looking to spend time outdoors and explore the local culture, which was perfect for us. We hope to return soon!
I came across Villa Mente and fell immediately in love to the mountain and bay view shown on its advertisement (ad). Fang replied within a day and declined my request since I was only staying there for one night. Fang said the minimum stay was 2 days, even its ad clearly said 1 night minimum (the ad now says 3 nights minimum). A little confusing, yes! But after a quick talk, Fang agreed to honor the ad and let us stay for one night, from December (phone number hidden). Fang was also very responsive on the day of my arrival when I needed help to navigate my way from Denpasar to Lovina. Thumbs up on professionalism!
Now about the villa. It was a pretty access from the main road, with a very steep village-road leading to the villa. For those who aren't savvy in driving, this might be tricky. However, Putu showed the way up and it was no big deal. The villa itself: BREATHTAKINGLY BEAUTIFUL! The upstairs family room leads to amazing panoramic view of the water and the mountain, almost as good, if not better than the view from Malibu hills, California. I also loved the infinity pool, with a small gazebo at the end. My family and I stayed hours outside, relaxing and reading while enjoying this spectacular view.
I have stayed in a $4000+/night villa in Uluwatu, and I have to say that the butler at Villa Mente (Komang) did better job. Komang is a super friendly Balinese lady that served us well. She took her time to accommodate our slightly complicated request of Balinese traditonal dinner and breakfast. Komang managed to bought one of the best ayam betutu, nasi campur, and sate plecing I've tasted in a while. The next morning, she made sudang lepet, plecing kangkung, and sop ayam. (forgive my Indonesian vocabularies on the food, feel free to google them up). Komang hands down did marvelous job!!
A slight hick-up during the stay was the unstable power at the villa. The light came on and off multiple times at night and that made cooling down the room became quite challenging. I also slightly suspect the AC is not powerful enough. But, this was not a big deal at all. I managed to get the room cooled down and had a good night sleep.
The villa did not come with any toiletries, so bring your own. Maybe it will be great if it was notified to us first, since the ad says Shampoo is provided. I made the assumption that soap, conditioner, and lotion would be, too.
If I had more time in Lovina, I will definitely stay multiple nights at Villa Mente. Would I be back here again? 100% yes! Will I recommend this villa to other at airbnb? Without a doubt!
Villa Mente is even better than its photographs and fully met our expectations. Although the host Mr Fang does not live there, he has been amazingly responsive and helpful and sent us an extremely useful guide about the facilities in the villa as well as places of interest nearby. As per Fang's suggestion, we enjoyed the Buddhist monastery, Dolphin watching (we saw plenty of Dolphins) and snorkeling trips. Also, per his suggestion, we had a relaxing Balinese message at the Spa.
The driver (also named Komang) picked us up from the airport and brought us to the Villa, stopping to show us places of interest on the way. The trip took about three and a half hours.
We, a family of four adults, had a most wonderful 3 nights stay at Villa Mente. The excellent staff - Komang the cook and the gardener - took wonderful care of us. As we are vegetarians, Komang cooked some great dishes for us.
The arrangements include a generous complimentary welcome food and drinks package, daily house cleaning, clothes washing and ironing services plus cooking of at least two meals.
As the Villa is a 15 minutes drive to the main market, we used the car hire services for a drop and pick-up at 100,000 Rp or a half day for 300,000Rp.
Great place to stay if you plan to relax and have this villa be your only destination in Lovina. It's very high up a steep incline. So once you're there you don't want to venture down much
. But at the same time that is ok because everything you could ever want is there. Komang, the lady who cooks and cleans for you is a delight. Her cooking skills are so good. Everything she made was delicious. The view is stunning. The pool is a nice touch. The gazebo by the pool was my favorite and has power to plug in a laptop. The wifi is fast. You really feel at home at Villa Mente and if you want that - this is perfect. If you want to venture down, you need to brave it down on a moped, which I did no problem. But my two friends decided that hiring a driver was for them. This villa makes you feel like you're living it large - nice change of pace in Bali for a great price! But be cautious - if you want to venture down to Lovina often, then I would pass unless you're cool with riding a moped or hiring a driver. For us - this place was perfect. We wanted to chill and take it easy from the rest of out hectic trip. And this place was perfect.
We loved it. At first we were there 3 days, went to Gili Island, and then went back 4 days. The villa was a little hard to find. The staff were fantastic. Ordered our laundry and shopping, making delicious breakfast and even better dinner daily.
We are fully satisfied with the villa, the staff and the location and would definitely recommend the place to others.
The internet could be better.
