We spent three months in Athena's apartment with our four year old son and would on the whole absolutely recommend it. The location in the charming, family-friendly Noe Valley neighborhood is great (although a bit far from downtown and the sea). The apartment in the basement of a wonderful Victorian house is nice and tastefully decorated, and the view from the living room into the garden (and onto bits of the skyline) is very pleasant. Also, there is a very helpful housekeeper at your disposal should there be any problem with the apartment. There are a few drawbacks, however, too: With three plates, three glasses and no salad bowl, we found the kitchen was underequipped. But don't worry: We bought additional dishes, so everything should be there now. Also, we were a bit surprised to find the many closets full of leftovers from earlier guests (including deodorants and used clothes). We are confident, however, that these will be cleared out. And yes, you can hear the children living above, but mainly in the morning. It’s not dramatic, but if you are used to sleep past 8 am you may want to bring your earplugs. Otherwise, the apartment is a heaven of tranquility given the fact that you will be living in a city! Lastly, there seems to be a need for clarification regarding the use of the garden. We were told it was shared between Airbnb guests and the tenants of the apartment above. But the latter claimed it was theirs only. Overall it’s really a superb place, particularly if you are planning a longer stay. We would definitely book it again.
We stayed in the apartment for about 5 weeks. Athena was accommodating and very patient with our ever changing plans, was very nice and easy to reach, and so were the neighbours. The apartment is nice and a good size for one bedroom, and we loved the garden and spent many mornings there. The house is nicely equipped - we particularly enjoyed the in house washer and dryer! The neighbourhood is great too, very recommended when traveling with kids.
I stayed at Athena's place for 1.5 months while working in SF. Her place is in a nice, family oriented area and is really quiet at night -- great for a good night's sleep. One of my favourite things to do while staying there was opening the porch door then lying on the sofa & reading. The slight breeze coming in made it even more relaxing than it already was.
My stay was great, Athena was very friendly and helpful. The house was convenient and the little garden was just a small and a peaceful zen :)
It was a great place to experience how people live in San Francisco. We spent a week at Casa Grande and it was a great experience. Great views, great location and great house!
I would repeat!
We stayed here for two weeks in June/July 2012 and had a great vacation. Athena was an excellent host! There were seven of us and we had plenty of space. The house and the view of the downtown were fantastic. The location was great: short walking distance to pubic transportation and Wholefoods. We also appreciated the fact that Athena and her family seemed to share our interest in sustainability and organic food.
Very convenient location to our daughter's home about 4 blocks away. A good size for two. There are some minor items that need attention
We stayed with Athena for almost a month and she has been a great host. The place was just like we saw in the pictures - clean, pretty and the fresh flowers were very welcoming. Great place to come back to after a day spent exploring the city! I loved the fireplace. The apt is cozy, inviting, has a full kitchen, dishwasher, laundry and a nice garden. Apt is very comfortable and although there are kids upstairs, it is fairly quiet during the day. The place is less than 5 minutes walk to a J Line stop, Cafe XO (which I loved!), a grocery store and Church Street which has great places to eat. Walgreens & Safeway are just 10 minutes walk through 30th on Misson St. The walk from Glen Park Station is about 17 minutes (stop over at the Destination Baking Company on the way for the awesome bakery stuff and coffee or an amazing dinner at the french restaurant near the station!). The garden apt suited us for the long stay and the quiet location makes up with such easy access to the city and places full of action. Athena and Carlo are great hosts and made our stay very comfortable. Would definitely recommend staying here!
Very nice apartment in Highland Park. Cozy and fairly quiet (there are kids upstairs but not loud). I needed a place for myself and friends with their 2.5 yr old and this was great! The bed was a little too soft and squishy, the sofabed was great. Nice toiletries in the bathroom, full kitchen, laundry, etc.
I really enjoyed my stay. The apartment is very comfortable (cozy on rainy days and lovely view from the porch on sunny days). The location was perfect for my needs. Thanks!
Athena and her family were a delight. They were entirely gracious and left the house just as it was when they arrived. We would recommend that any other homeowners host this family. They were great!
Athena and family were a joy to have in our home. Lovely little children who were a delight, and well behaved. Even though they weren't here long, we could tell they were very nice and respectful people. They arrived very late after an arduous drive down from San Francisco and they quickly and respectfully settled in for the night. The children's nanny was wonderful with the children. We would love to know them better. We highly recommend them and would welcome them anytime.
What a wonderful experience !! Even though I did not meet Athena , i could tell that she is very nice and respectful and the place was left perfectly clean. I would totally enjoy having her stay for how ever she would like. I highly recommend and would welcome her any time. Thank you ;)
How wonderful Athena and Carlo are! Very warm and they are full of ambition. I would totally enjoy having them stay for how ever they would like. They are full of life, and know how to enjoy it. I would enjoy getting to know them more. As for caring for Geo's Place in the Heart of the Castro? Would welcome them back. Wish they lived around the corner...grin...
Thank you again.
This family has a fabulous home in a beautiful, family-friendly neighborhood with easy access to anywhere in the city via streetcar (MUNI) with nicely appointed, separate downstairs accommodations. Our children are dear friends with theirs and we have known this family well for 2 years- cooking, playing, celebrating, and exploring San Francisco (especially schools and playgrounds, for better or worse) together.
