Our family of five had the most wonderful break away in Tess's very cosy cottage with the most gorgeous views. Barley Cove is really only down the road! Most days we swam in the morning, home for lunch, read for an hour or two and back out for a swim in the afternoon. Late in the evening we cycled up the hill to watch the sunset over Bantry Bay. Even my teenage sons were blown away by the view...! Goleen was the place to go for the most gorgeous melt in the mouth chocolate cookies and ice cream. Goleen does have all you need for the basic essentials and we can recommend Herons Cove restaurant in Goleen for a great restaurant experience.
Tess is a wonderful host, she kept us up to date with the latest information for dolphin watching etc. Her home is gorgeous and has everything you need. She couldn't do enough to make us feel more welcome. I was lucky enough to buy one of Tess's crafts which she sells in Skibbereen, it is now in our dining room which reminds me off our wonderful break away. We really didn't want to come home. Thank you Tess!
This is a special place. Tess has made this house cosy and quirky while maintaining the authentic feel of a West Cork farmhouse. Our week on the hill felt less like a holiday than an escape to the life we really want. I bought meat from the superb butcher in Goleen while my children picked peas and washed new potatoes from Tess's garden. No dinner could have been finer or more satisfying. A short walk behind the house brought us to a spectacular sunset view making us feel as though we had reached the edge of the world.
Tess was friendly and generous with both her local knowledge and her veggies! Her library had something for everyone, from Beatrix Potter to Harry Potter to Fermat's Last Theorem.
We walked and swam and ate and knitted and went to sleep at twilight and woke at dawn.
If you want to feel clean and light and whole this is the place to go.
How wonderful, thank you so much :-)
