I am a fashion designer. I have lived in San Francisco, Florence Italy, Kiel Germany, Portland OR. I love fine dinning and being entertained.
I enjoyed my stay over the week! Uji made sure that my visit was comfortable and would check up on me throughout my visit in NYC. She allowed me to feel right at home in Jackson Heights, a vibrant place that is minutes away to both Manhattan and Brooklyn.
Uji is the best host ever! She is an excellent communicator and made everything clean and tidy for my midnight arrival. During my stay, she made sure everything was okay every step of the way.
The Zen Hideout is located in Jackson Heights which is probably one of the most diverse and vibrant neighborhoods in NYC. I really enjoyed exploring the many restaurants and shops along 37th and Roosevelt Ave. Very different from Manhattan, which is very close by train.
I would definitely stay here again!
Uji's apartment was the perfect place to stay over new year's! Very quiet aside from the stomping of people living upstairs. It was nice and warm in the hideout and very clean.
The best part were all the grocery stores just a street away and the nearby subway station that gets express trains. Takes about 10 minutes to get into manhattan on an express train, thirty on a local one. So the express is very important!
Uji was a wonderful host. Very helpful with instructions on getting to her place from the airport. She's also just a very friendly person and meeting her was great.
There's also a marvelous hat collection in the apartment.
This is a great place to stay. Uji is super responsive, reliable, and attentive. The apartment is comfortable and creative. Jackson Heights/Woodside/Elmhurst is a lovely part of the city to stay in. You have access to amazing food - both restaurants and grocers - and also one of the most interesting mixes of immigrant New York. And - you are right near a major subway stop. As stated in the description, the apartment is in the basement - so if you need natural light - that's the only disadvantage. However, if you are out and about most of the time it doesn't matter.
Uji was very quick to respond to the reservation. She is a very caring individual and was always available for any questions. Her apartment is very close to the subway making the travel into Manhattan convenient and quick. Although this is a basement apartment, it is set up quite nice and the pictures posted are exact.
Uji's apartment is indeed a great hideout from the hustle and bustle of NYC. It is located in what seems like a busy neighborhood, but amazingly very quiet except from the occasional foot steps of the house owner. Although the house itself is actually quite old, we can tell that Uji has made a lot of extra effort to furnish and beautify the place. The bed is very comfortable, and the kitchen is fully equipped. The bathroom has everything we need, i.e., bath gels, shampoos, functioning toilet, but there is a small window next to the bathtub that cannot be closed. The apartment is a stone throw from the subway with direct express trains into Manhanttan. We never waited for more than 10 minutes for a train to arrive. Uji herself is very very friendly and easy to talk to. We had a good time staying at her place.
One thank you to Uji to have welcomed us in your apartment.
Quiet apartment, far from the excitement. Functional apartment.
Thank you very much.
My husband and I stayed at Uji's place for the US Open during the Labor Day weekend. Overall it was a five star experience. The apartment was kept neat and clean in spite of the old age of the building. Subway was 5-minute walking distance away and only 10-minute ride to Flushing Meadows. A ton of restaurants were nearby and many of them open late. Above all, Uji was an excellent host - she stayed up until midnight to wait for us on the day we arrived and kept away to give us privacy. We are very lucky to find this hidden jewel in NYC!
I loved Uji Zen Hideout ..it was spotless, unique and accessible to public transportation ..I was traveling alone and felt quite safe in the culturally diverse neighborhood..Uji was helpful ,thoughtful and considerate ..I would stay at the Zen again .. Carol
Uji was very friendly and outgoing! She didn't hesitate to make us feel welcome and at home.
The apartment itself was cozy, in good shape, and well-decorated. It (email hidden)d-in vibe which I really appreciated.
I'd recommend this place to individuals and couples looking for a quirky, convenient place to sleep while they see the city.
