We bring a love of adventure, culinary arts and nature, sharing the beauty of Central NY with all our visitors! Jim & Susan
The Beattie Sanctuary was a great place to stay with my daughters during a Family Weekend at Colgate. The accommodations were great: we had our own suite with 1 1/2 baths, a kitchenette and the most comfortable beds on the planet!
Susan was a warm and wonderful hostess. She asked ahead of time about food preferences and followed them to a "T." Also, her dog, Madeleine, was a sweet little ice breaker!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the Mellow Yellow Room. Susan and Jim are the perfect hosts, sharing information about the fantastic property and suggesting different restaurants to enjoy in the area. Mellow Yellow is roomy and inviting, and is very close to the large, well stocked bathroom.
Susan is a very talented chef. Every morning she prepared an incredible
breakfast with fresh, locally sourced items. Each dish was delicious and beautifully presented.
I hope that we have another opportunity to visit Syracuse and stay with Susan and Jim again. It was the perfect choice.
Our recent stay at Susan's house was just perfect in every way. The house and the grounds are beautiful and inviting. Highly recommend. If we find ourselves visiting the area again, we most certainly would want to stay again.
Susan's breakfasts are delicious, nutritious and artfully presented!
A wonderful and huge property, a luxurious and comfortable room, and, most important, charming hosts who make you feel at home!
We had interesting conversations, and Susan cooks the best breakfasts. We will definitely come back for a longer stay!
Une adresse chaudement recommandée :)
This property is lovely - from the house to the gardens to its magical meadow. My stay was tranquil from beginning to end and Susan was a lovely host. I highly recommend the Beattie Sanctuary for your bnb getaway.
We arrived in the evening and it was not hard to find. The grounds are well kept, groomed, peaceful. We had our pick of the bamboo room which we felt was the best view. SBF had plenty of suggestions for dinner and we ended up going to get Greek food and then to a soft serve ice cream place on the way home. The driveway was lit very well and we had no problem finding the driveway late at night. The aim of the trip was to relax and play things by ear - and we did just that. There is a pool just up a few steps from the beautiful stone patio - we took a really nice swim that evening - the stars were out and the sky was clear. She set out lounge chairs for us and was welcoming. She asked us about diet restrictions and made a wonderful breakfast the following morning - fresh peaches, apricots, plums, blueberries, local honey, cinnamon, and toasted coconut. We then had scrambled eggs made with brown organic eggs, orange bell pepper, garlic, cilantro; side of roasted tomato, yellow squash and zuchinni. Awesome breakfast. We talked about doing a bachelorette party there later in the Spring for one of my GF. All in all, we slept very well, ate very well and had "protected time" away from the pagers. =) And let's not forget about the take home granola - yum!
My son and I loved our stay at Susan and Jim's beautiful house. I can fill this page with superlatives from the friendliness, graciousness and helpfulness of our hosts to the gorgeous house and estate, to the absolutely wonderful and delicious gourmet breakfast, and so much more. But words just won't be enough. You have to experience it yourself. We didn't want to leave! We are very experienced travellers; we've stayed at youth hostels and bed and breakfasts in Europe, to the best hotels like The Four Seasons and the Ritz Carlton worldwide. We both agree that Susan and Jim's place is one of our favorites. We will definitely come back and next time we'll bring the rest of our family.
We had a very relaxing stay and enjoyed the beautiful home and scenery around us. Susan and her husband were great hosts and we felt very comfortable staying with them!
My girlfriend and I were looking for a weekend outside the city that fulfilled two guidelines: It had to be out in nature so that we could go hiking and it had to have a pool so that we could cool off during the hot days. The Beattie Sanctuary delivered on both counts. It turned out to be a cooler weekend but we still got the pool in on the warmer of the two days. As for the hiking, there's so many options in the area for outdoor activities. There's a 150 foot waterfall (Chittenango Falls) just a few miles away through the village of Cazenovia, which has a few stable house stops and (a few) friendly, welcoming restaurants and bars. Because of the rain we didn't get to hike as much as we'd like but the area still boasts a lot of state parks and reserves.
We decided to drive up to Syracuse and then to Ithaca, both are very close by. Ithaca sports a wealth of great parks with hiking and waterfalls and is only a little over an hour's drive from the Sanctuary.
If you like waking up to the sounds of birds chirping and the sights of magnificent green out your window, the Beattie Sanctuary really delivers. Susan is a trained master chef and seems to take great joy and pride in her amazing meals: fresh baked scones, local fruit bought fresh from farmers markets, brie omelets, fruit pancakes and of course local honey. If you're looking for respite from the city, nice rolling hills, mountains and little dotted country towns, the Beattie Sanctuary is a great find.
I had such a lovely stay at Susan's home - I only wish I had more time to spend there! It was 24 acres of pure relaxation! Plenty of room, large bathroom and open floor plan are part of what makes this place great. Too add to that, I could not have asked for better breakfast options - from homemade scones, granola and cookies, French toast and bacon, a fruit plate, and a secret ingredient added to her coffee - Susan had all the bases covered. I will definitely be going back for a longer trip to enjoy all the amenities!
Thanks again, Susan!
Even though we were not in Bali when Susan visited Rumah Kodok, our neighbors and staff there met Susan several times and liked her very much. In our communications with Susan she was open and friendly. She and her daughter were good guests and we hope they will return.
