I am from California, and my girlfriend from Mexico. We travel often, sometimes by bicycle. I'm encouraging her to live simply, with few attachments—to be free in the world. She in turn is inspiring me to meditate and see the world with more than my eyes. While on tour we're trying to find meaningful ways to contribute to others' happiness, easing suffering when we find it, taking delight in all joys, and finding common ground between us and those we meet.
I have been living all too well. Without any perceivable effort I've lived a freer life than most of the world can dream of. I can't remember ever going a day without a meal. I wave my hands over a keyboard and cash dispensers spurt out fun tokens. I sleep in the woods for pleasure. Most of my heroes are still alive. I have access to more information than all the previous generation's combined. Every morning I wake up and can choose what is meaningful.
