The atmosphere is friendly and welcoming to all travelers - young and, ahem, middle-aged. The festive grounds are full of palapas, hammocks, and a bar with a swim-up pool, had a terrific view of the Arenal Volcano!

Probably one of our favorite places that we stayed at during our trip in Costa Rica. Joe and Jennifer were extremely great hosts, they were very approachable, and answered all of our questions! They also gave us great recommendations on locations to check out (Natural Hot Springs is a must!) Thanks again Arenal Hostal Resort!
Great location, spacious, friendly staff, pool which is nice on hot days, short walk to super market, clean, powerful A/C, only downside was the shower was a trickle of cold water.
My boyfriend and I really enjoyed our stay here! It was very clean and the staff was extremely helpful and knowledgeable of the area. We will definitely stay here again!
By far the best hostel I've ever stayed in. The resort was decorated really well and the room was spacious and clean. All the staff were super friendly and helpful and made our stay very enjoyable. I'd recommend this hostel to anyone in the area, as its provides an awesome temporary home at a really affordable price!
We had a wonderful time at Arenal Hostel Resort. Staff were friendly and helpful, other guests were respectful and kind, and the premises were exactly what we were looking for.
Awesome staff, really helpful, took us out our first night, we met people from eveeerywhere around the world. Stayed in private room, pretty clean, safe location.
I ended up extending my stay here three more nights!
The night life I hear is much better on the west coast (haven't been there though). But if you are looking to meet up with other travelers in the forest area, this is exactly where you want to be.
The tourists you meet here will tell determine if your night will go well here or not.
I know a lot of people who love the Cerra Chato hike, that's what I did, and yes it was great exercise. Extremely muddy, wear boots! The Lake at the end is freezing cold. Make sure to take a Taxi from Arenal to the start of the hike. I walked to the start and it took me like an hour in the sun, all up hill, by the time I had to start the hike I was exhausted and kind of out of water.
There is no gate or anything, but I guess you can pay $10 at the hotel to do the hike. It is an intense hike, it is like doing a marathon, don't take it lightly. If you have knee or shin problems, don't do this hike. It can take like 3-4 hours to do. If you ask someone how much you have left before you reach the lake and they say 20 minutes, that really means an hour. 10 minutes = 40 minutes. 5 minutes = 25 minutes. Everyone likes to lie about how close you are to the end, don't trust anyone!
Ok getting off topic, the airbnb was awesome! Air conditioner = muy bueno. Beds were comfortable, place was clean. Food in Arenal was nothing special and a bit pricey. And drinks were a little pricey as well.
The employees were all awesome! Loved them all.
We had a private room at the Arenal Hostel and it did not feel like a hostel at all, it felt like legitimate hotel resort except it was only a fraction of the price. The lounge area with the hammocks is very nice, and the pool/bar area is awesome and the bartender makes some great cocktails. The staff is very helpful (especially Joe from Boston) with explaining things for you to do and how to get around. The location of the hostel is perfect as it is right in the center of downtown and right next to some great restaurants and sodas.
Great stay in LaFortuna. Staff was very knowledgable and helpful when it came to restaurants or booking tours. Staff was good with their English, as or Spanish was not up to par.
Our private room was perfect, no complaints. Sister resort was a short walk, great to use the pool.
The place was nice but only because of the low price. Perfect if you are travelling to arenal to have a real adventure, canopying, river rafting etc.. Our room was on the second floor and we heard rats (or perhaps some other animals.. Sounded like rats.) running on the roof at night. Didn't bother us but nice to know. The guy who met us when we came, don't remember his name, was very nice and accomodating! He helped us with everything we wanted to know. He also helped us booking our activities. Everything felt easy and nice. During our visit it rained non stop so we dicided to leave 2days early. Perhaps our experience would have been better if we would have gotten a glimpse of the sun.
