Unfortunately wasn't able to visit due to a sudden family passing
Hostess was there to welcome us - explained where everything was that we would need. Provided well for breakfast and also other meals if we wanted, as the accommodation is approximately 25 km east of Glen Innes on a working farm. Suggest arriving in daytime, as the sign on the main road is quite small, but if coming from Grafton, slow down to say 80 km/hr once the Bald Knob turn-off is reached. Accommodation was comfortable and quiet, which is what we wanted for our Valentine's weekend. Beware however, as Maureen will want to spoil you even more with some home cooking (cookies and cupcakes) and possibly some preserves. We stayed (2) nites and glad we did. Worth taking a morning walk across the road and up the family property on the other side of the highway to take in the distant views on this side of the ridge and also those on the other side, when you get to the top. Highly recommended
What a delightful hostess Maureen was. She was extremely generous to us. The house had everything we needed and it was so quiet. Excellent bed. Wonderful breakfast. We enjoyed seeing Maureen's farm animals and she was very helpful with directions.
Lovely cottage, spotlessly clean, very homely & comfortable. Maureen is such a nice, kind person - we instantly felt like we had known her for years. She happily brought the children to see and feed the animals which they loved (for them, this was the highlight of the stay), and baked delicious cookies & banana cakes for them. I honestly couldn't imagine a nicer place to stay in this area and we will definitely come back.
Peaceful, quiet and relaxing little cottage. We had actually slept for 10 hours first time in a long time. If you need to recharge, this is definitely the place to go!
Maureen is fantastic! Her homemade jams and cakes are to die for. Such a warm and welcoming person.
We will definitely be returning soon!
Maureen is by far the most warm and generous host I've ever come across. We were blown away with her hospitality, particularly given we only stayed one night.
Her quaint little farm cottage has everything you need for a comfortable stay and Maureen ensures it's well stocked with enough goodies to keep you from ever needing to leave the property.
We can't recommend Maureen and Halloran House highly enough. We'll be telling all our friends.
Halloran House is a lovely place to stay. The house has everything we need, comfortable bed, big bathroom, nice kitchen, shampoo, food. Everything is much than we expected. Maureen is an extremely kind and nice host, she is generous and thoughtful. We are amazed by her farm, animals and the history of the House. Staying at Halloran House is the most pleasant part of our trip. We all wish we could stay there longer. I will definitely go back to visit Ms Maureen next time. Thanks for hosting us : )
Maureen is an exceptional host, providing everything we needed as well as a few extras, like home-made biscuits, frozen meals in the freezer, eggs in the morning, some home made jam to take away with us and some lavender to keep our car smelling nice for our road trip. The cottage is very cosy, clean and comfortable, and the country surrounding it is beautiful. Very dissapointed we were only staying one night, and would certainly reccomend it to anyone else going to the area.
A beautiful garden setting, welcoming host, and everything you need to relax and unwind. No need to rush, great place to unwind. Would stay again, if in the area.
My wife and I were travelling by motorcycle and needed a place to stop for the night. We prefer to support smaller accommodation providers, rather than large hotel chains when we travel, and Halloran House did not disappoint.
One of our initial questions to Maureen was about where we might buy dinner; should we grab something in Glen Innes or was there a store nearby we could stop in at on the way?
Maureen, responded quickly to our email enquiries, and on this occasion rang me to reassure me about dinning arrangements. We didn’t have to find dinner, it was provided at no additional cost.
We arrived at around 7:00pm. Greeted with a wave and a warm smile, we were quickly made to feel at home. After introductions, Maureen explained the house rules and offered that there was soup in the freezer we could reheat at our leisure if we wanted.
Maureen goes above and beyond to make her guests feel welcome. She does some awesome home cooking, everything from cakes and biscuits to have with our coffee, to homemade jams and conserves which she offered to us to take home. She even made us shepherd’s pie for dinner and apple crumble with custard for desert which she brought over to us around 8:00pm on the day we arrived. Breakfast was just as well catered for. Fresh eggs, fruit, plain and multi-grain bread, various juices, fruit, coffee, tea and milk was available to us to prepare as we wished. We wanted for nothing.
Country hospitality at its best!
Check out was flexible and we left at around 10:30AM for the trip home.
From the photos in the listing, the house looked clean and well appointed. Maureen has gone to great lengths to present Halloran House as a clean, comfortable place to spend some time and even though we were travelling without the kids, Maureen caters for the young as well. As well as a high chair, there were quite a few toys, books and games available inside and out.
Even though Halloran House is on the Gwyder Highway, you will be hard pressed to hear the passing traffic, which is very, very light. Glen Innes is 22km west and Grafton is 135km to the east, so there are options to explore local attractions if that’s what takes your fancy.
If you want to get away and find some peace and quiet for a weekend or a week, this is the place for you.
