Overall I would actually rate it ZERO. The place was terrible and filthy. To begin with Julie was not there and we had difficulty getting hold of her to get the keys. On top of that, we did not have the lobby keys and every time we had to get in we had to either call her (which she never picked up) or wait for someone to come in to open the door for us. The place was absolutely filthy, it could definitely use some vacuuming and tidying up. The room did not have a real bed as mentioned in the listing. Also there was no private bathroom. The bathroom was gross and did not have toilet paper. Julie was not there the entire weekend. The room was extremely hot ( 85 degrees), no view or ventilation. I would not recommend this place to anyone.
Do not stay at this place. The owner, “Deal/Julie” is very shady,
untrustworthy, completely unreliable, and a liar. She did bait-and-switch. Promising the lakefront location at E. Randolph, forcing us to go to S. Wells instead. After waiting for her for 40 minutes at the original place we thought we rented, she forced us to take a cab to
another part of the city (promising to reimburse us for cab fare but never doing so). Once we got there, we waited another 20 minutes till she came downstairs. She refused to meet @ concierge so he won't know we are staying at her place. She wanted to take our suitcases without showing us where we’ll be staying. She did not even want to give us the keys to the place.
After much insisting from us, she agreed to show us where we’ll be staying (though threatening to cancel our reservation). The ‘new’
place was sub-par by far. Very dirty. No light in the washrooms. The bedsheets were not changed – had crusty stains and hair on sheets and pillow. She complained when we asked her to change the bedding. She had her dirty thongs and tshirts
spread out everywhere in the room and bathroom.
Tricked us into giving her back the apartment key ("I'm thinking of going out tonight"... then not going anywhere).
We wanted to go to the original location but she said "Why don't you stay here instead? It's better for you - where do you want to go?". We insisted to go there, she said "actually I have cleaners there prepping the place, and they'll be done at 4pm" -- though the listing said "arrival flexible", and we agreed with her the prior day that we'll arrive between 9am-11am. We asked to just go there and drop our things off, she said "no you can't do that because they are there"... anyway, just a big runaround and what sounded like BS shady excuses. There were more but I have no more space to write...
She said "I'm sick of arguing, if you've got a problem then we can cancel the reservation and airBNB will just refund you", at which point we agreed to stop arguing because we were facing the prospect of spending the rest of the day searching for where to sleep instead of sightseeing!
Later in the evening when we came back she behaved as if nothing happened, all cheery and happy.
The following day she offered us her student discount card that saved us on museum tickets, and to eat some groceries she bought (we didn't find any groceries though, and didn't eat anything).
We were severely disappointed and discouraged. We will be seeking a refund from AirBNB. Do not book with this person.
I did not have a good experience at this place at all. The room was very dirty and in desperate need of a vacuum. The bathroom was in a similar state. The shower drain actually had a partial clog so standing water accumulated as I showered. Yuck.
The 'real bed' as stated in the ad, turned out to be a boxspring with a 1 inch thick foam topper on top of it and was rock hard. I ended up sleeping on the air mattress that was in the room for the first night, but did not stay the 2nd night due to how dirty it was.
If you do decide to stay here, be sure to keep the room door closed at all times or her cats will run inside and set up shop on all your stuff. Terrible.
Unfortunately, I did not stay with Deal. I mis-booked the wrong night (exactly 1 week earlier), we clarified via text message that I would be coming the next week. "Just come next Sunday its fine". I said I'd be in touch in a week. No problem. Day of travel she does not respond to my text messages, message on airbnb, or phone call. I arrive in Chicago with no place to stay. Airbnb was of little help and I was STRANDED at the airport. After airbnb gets in touch with Deal on my behalf, she then texts me and says she is out of town at a retreat. I hear no more from here and she refuses to refund the night I did not stay. I have tried multiple times since to get in touch (via text) with no response. Airbnb said I should have made all communication via their website so there would be a record. That was my mistake, trusting that she would honor what we agreed on and do the right thing by sending a refund.
I booked a reservation at this place because the ad looked great and especially the location. Unfortunately, I can't give a good review of this place as we couldn't stay the night we arrived with my husband, it was too dirty. I confirm that the location is great as mentioned in the ad but despite that, the rest was awful.
When we arrive with my husband, the room was really dirty (we find remains of peanuts, hygienic towels and other dirts on the floor). The bathroom was not cleaner.
Moreover, the bed was not a real one as mentioned in the description, it was an inflatable matress and there were holes in the sheets.
There were also holes in the towels our host land us.
Regarding the room, there was nothing in common with the pictures you can see on the website. There was almost no lights (just something put in a corner but really light), we couldn't close the curtains, and no view (but that was not the issue here).
Our host seemed nice and was comprehensible after our 3 hours flight delays but we had difficulties to reach her and most of all, she didn't seem to understand what was the issue with the room as if she never came into this room. We had to find an hotel at the last minute and we spend a certain amount of time trying to fix this issue ; which was not enjoyable as it was our first time in Chicago and it was only for two days.
I'm really disappointed because when I contacted the host to book the room, she knew we were a couple coming only for the week-end and that it was for a special occasion. I was looking to meet someone who will share something with us as things you can read in others review. But we didn't. Too bad.
The place was a bit dirty (common areas) and could use some tidying up. I didn't know I would be living in a "hostel" type environment with other roommates living in the other rooms. Everyone was nice though and Julie ( the host) was really nice.
The bed was very comfortable, and every sheet/towel was freshly washed and clean.
Bang for the buck this was a really good deal. The area at night is dark though and about 25 mins from downtown walking or $8 cab ride.
We did have so many problems with this Host, we reserve and paid in advance to go the Chicago marathon on October 7th, 2012 and we were going to check in on the night of the 3/10 and the day before she send a message asking us to find another place for that night. One week early she ask us to find another place to stay and we did not agree. So for the first night we had to find an other place and pay for that and she asked us to call her in the afternoon, so we did, and try again to her cellphone (we could not left a message the last time we call at 9pm, without answering machine in her cellphone) and she return the call at 11pm that same day. At that time we had find another place safer to stay for the rest of the days. She offer to refund only one night and kept the rest. Airbnb did refund us 50% of the money for all the trouble we had, but this lady did not. We have been asking for our money back and we will still ask for it. We did cancel using the same way she did the 2 times before. So it was a really bad experience and it is not recommended (impossible to rate the overall experience) there is nothing to rate, because she, as we wrote her several times, do not care for her guest if they have a place to stay or not. It's a very wonderful place!!! Julie is also very nice to us, and very convenient for us because the place is near many spotlights! Julie can say Chinese that is familiar to us. We had a expression journey in Chicago. If u have a chance to Chicago, don't forget this lovely room.
I spent so good week in Chicago! Juliie's apartment was a really good place to stay. It is close to all most important sights and not far from the subway station.
My stay at Julie's apartment was really pleasant. Julie was very welcoming and helping. The building, designed by Bertrand Golberg, is amazing in a very unusual way. The room itself is very comfortable with panoramic windows on the river and a private bathroom attached, wich was a nice surprise.
Deal was a great guest and we were happy to host her while she checks out Denver. She was easy going and great to visit with. She was open to explore the city on our recommendations. She was here in Denver during Art Week. Deal was able to explore our art galleries and museums for free. We were happy she got out and saw Denver. She was clean and tidy and we hope to see her again at the Mini-Suite.
