Maryann, I wish you would have let me know about your needs! I would have been happy to provide hair dryer, bar soap instead of the liquid soap, and anything else you would have needed. The outdoor area is tree-shaded and has gorgeous blue herons that dominate - nature is what makes it both beautiful and difficult. We put a plastic covering that you can remove over the table and chairs that help a little, but again, this is a very difficult space to keep up with the tree leaves and birds, and the drought prevents us from doing major landscaping. We provide beach chairs that are clean and stay indoors that you can bring outside as needed. Also it sounds like you did not find the shortest path to the beach as it is much closer than a mile away. Torrey Pines reserve begins across the street of Carmel Valley Rd., and you can get to the walking trails via the beach access 2 blocks away. Yes, you can also drive there if you want to shorten your walk a bit. I feel terrible that you didn't get all that you hoped for!!! One final note for anyone reading this - there is a Chinese restaurant and that is the only restaurant I would NOT recommend nearby. There are about 4 other ones (Edamami, Iris, Roberto's, Trattoria Ponte Vecchio) that are all amazing and worth trying that are in a 1-block radius from the cottage.
