Tour guide in Florence
Andrea seems like quite a nice guy, but I think we had some communication problems.
Firstly there was a very elongated enquiry thread in which he asked me things like how to pay me and to confirm my price, despite these being very simple features of airbnb laid out in the listing page.
Next, my check-in policy states 'flexible', which I anticipate means some negotiation with the guest, based on my working day/life and the guest's travel arrangements. Andrea decided to send an email with the time he wished to check in and then ignore my emails/airbnb messages and SMSs explaining that this was not possible (as well as some options on alternative arrangements). Andrea then explained that he'd got a later flight so not to worry and he would see me later. Again I gave options on when I would be home from work or a compromise meeting place to give him keys if this was too late. Andrea either misunderstood or ignored these instructions and then called me when outside my house asking where I was. I recommended that he wait in either the nearby pub or supermarket and then negotiated an early exit from work, to try and minimise the time he was kept waiting. When I did meet Andrea he told me not to worry and he appreciated I was very busy.
Andrea's bed was freshly laid with clean towels fresh from being dried. Our home is clean and others have commented on this as a positive. I had some nice conversations with Andrea and I wish he had felt confident enough to complain to me if he was so deeply unhappy with his experience. I know that Andrea manages an actual Bed & Breakfast and perhaps he thought this was a professional establishment and not what I feel is quite clearly explained - a spare room in my home, available as a budget-friendly accommodation in London. I will be reviewing all of my Listing details based on Andrea's possible misinterpretations. Disappointing!
