This is a lovely spacious house, well decorated and furnished, lovely crockery and kitchen ware and with all the basics so you're not having to rush to the shops to even make a coffee. Very close to the subway and JFK airport - it cost us $26 including tip by taxi. Tom was very prompt, both in confirming the booking and responding to minor queries.
The location is very far from Manhattan, so if you're planning to spend every day there, you'll struggle as it's about an hour door-to-door to Times Square. The neighbourhood is also pretty tough, as in policeman-on-the-street-corners-at-night-tough. The area comes with a pretty bad reputation as I found out from my uncle and a friend of mine who came to pick me up one evening. My cousin and I, however, didn't feel unsafe at any point, but think it's worth mentioning.
We stayed at Tom's place for a quick weekend get away and loved the place.
We arrived in NY late and he was flexible with the late check in. The house was very nice and felt very cozy as if we were right at home. On Sunday we missed our bus home and had to get a later bus out of NYC. When we called Ms. Deborah she was soooo sweet nice and understanding and allowed us to stay at the house a while longer until our next bus arrived. We will definitely be looking forward to staying here during all of our NY trips and look forward to booking with them again.
This is my second time using Toms place and I loved it. Quiet, clean , comfy, spacious and Tom is an amazing host, very attentive . He checked in often to see if everything was ok and was always easy to reach. I'd use him again and again.
Tom was awsome, very attentive from the start although we never met in person. It was very easy to find the place as well as pick up the key. It was a lot more spacious than I expected but looked exactly like the pictures. I felt perfectly safe in the neighborhood no matter what time I came or went and Tom was always easy to reach. He made it feel like I was staying with an uncle the way he checked up on me and I'd definitely stay there again. It is a little bit a train ride to manhattan (45 min +) but it's not a difficult commute and the train station wasn't far at all. I spent majority of my trip in manhattan and had no issue getting around. I'd highly recommend his place and gladly stay there again.
It was not my first experience at this place. The Host, Tom, paid a lot of attention to my suggestions when I was there for the first and the second time. I found in the apartment a new coffee maker, toaster and wine glasses... It was clean, cosy and comfortable )) An important tip: if you prefer the subway then you need to go back home earilier than 11 pm, if you go later it may take 2 hrs to come back from the city center.
It is very easy to get to the Manhattan in the morning and in the afternoon, approx. 50-60 min. Moreover, the location is very convenient, it takes 5 minutes to get to the subway. I would totally recommend this apartment.
Tom and lulu were great, gave us all the information we needed and they were only a phone call away, very nice people to deal with and helped us with anything we needed. Apartment was great very clean, only thing is was abit far from manhattan but was only a subway away which was only 2 blocks down was very convenient.
This was indeed a nice home. However, we were really beaten by the distance, considering we had to be in the city all the day. On our first day A taxi from Manhattan to Brooklyn costed us a whopping USD110/- God knows where the cabbie drove us.
Tom is an absolute gentleman, extremely courteous. So was Debra the Manager.
Thanks to our daughter, we managed the subway and metro for the rest of our time in New York. Over all it was a pleasant place, the apartment is fairly clean and considerably well kept. Debra was avaiable at every phone call.
At the same time, we are very grateful that Tom accommodated us in the last minute and and was really kind enough to allow flexible check-in and check-out. A heartfel thank you for that.
We spent 4 days in New York, with 2 teenagers. Tom's place was nice and spacious but a little far out so would stay in Brooklyn again, but somewhere nearer Manhatten next time and maybe in a more lively area as we do like to socialise!!
It was close to the 3 train station but practically at the end of the line and a good half hour into Manhatten. We did look for a bar one evening but must have gone the wrong way as Tom said there were some around but we didn't find them. There are small corner shops scattered around the area which are handy for the essentials.
There was a bit of confusion when we arrived when one of the bedroom doors was locked but his sister was great and sorted us out. she even dropped us off to the nearest big supermarket so we could stock up while we waited for the key.
Tom called us during our stay to make sure we were ok. He even dropped us to the airport for our return flight. We told him the place could do with a kettle as we do like our tea! Also the plastic sheeting on the beds was a bit annoying.
All in all we had a great time as ever in New York and cant wait to return!!
I rented Tom's house for the NYE 2013. His wife welcomed us and made a
house tour. Everything looked OK. But after she left, we looked around
again and found dead cockroaches in the kitchen under the counter. We took
pictures of it but Tom never wanted to
acknowledge the facts or at least apologize for the trouble he put us in
(i.e. trying to find a hotel at this time of the year for a group of 6
people). Therefore, I cannot recommend this place and the host to anyone.
