This little cottage is amazing. It's nested within fancy housing but you can tell that the only place that actually has character is the one you are staying in. The feeling this place gives you makes it hard to walk out the door and do stuff. It felt so homey that the only reason we got out was to buy a whole bunch of food and cooked for over 4 hours! Don’t expect to cook your next thanksgiving meal there as the options are pretty limited and the stove is as old as the house but you should be able to put together a few things.
We fell asleep content and satiated to wake up in the morning with the sun and the birds chirping away. We then enjoyed the views of Sherwood Lake while eating on the little private balcony.
The place is decorated like you would expect an artist would in order to feel at home and inspired. It is a little wooden house on a forest hill so you do have your fair share of spider webs and a little bit of dust. But if you know this going in, which the owner was very upfront with and communicated very well, your stay should still be outstanding.
Very highly recommended.
This was my first trip booked with Airbnb so I didn't know what to expect. The location of January's place was perfect. The area she lives in is very nice, and the lake makes it very scenic. The last day the sun decided to come out and the view got even more amazing.
There is plenty to do here as well; nice luxury movie theater right down the street and plenty of plazas with restaurants to choose from. January was an excellent host, from the moment we got there she kept in constant communication to make sure we were doing okay.
The place itself definitely has a rustic/cabin feel to it. It's not a hotel if that's the sort of thing you were looking for. It's great if you're the outdoorsy type and looking to get away. If you have a fear of bugs, or don't like the outdoors, couldn't say I'd recommend it.
My biggest and gripe about January's place was that it was not as well maintained as I depicted in the photos. There's a good amount of cobwebs and daddy long legs hanging around. And I'm not just talking about in the corners, directly in the kitchen! Although January was kind enough to waive the Cleaning fee, I would have preferred to stay in a more upkept environment.
Only thing from giving this place a 5 was the cleanliness. Had it been a little more dust and spider free, it would have been the perfect stay. All in all though, had a terrific weekend. With the sun only coming out the morning we had to leave (weather which hosts have no control over), would definitely want to come back during the summertime.
Wonderful communication between January and I, so there were no surprises. What we saw is what we got, which was perfect for us. Had a serene and relaxing time in this cozy, rustic retreat. Definitely want to come back - this time with toys for the lake!
- the place is cool and charming as shown in the pictures
- January was very easy to deal with and communicative
- the place was not clean: cobwebs, dust and pet hair were too much
- the one window A/C unit was not enough, particularly because it was opposite from the guest bedroom, so we couldn't even read comfortably in the guest bedroom until late evening (granted this was the hottest part of summer)
I took my girlfriend on a last minute surprise retreat. January was great in helping arranging things. The house is a wonderful little hideaway in an overlooked part of the hills. The area is very quiet and despite it being over the road and near other houses, feels very private. It's also not too far from a Sprouts, Vons and small downtown area. The space is adorable with lots of character. Even though there is no AC and we stayed on a hot weekend, the space had good airflow and the lake kept things a bit cooler. The outside porch is the spot.
I had an amazing stay at January's rustic cabin. I would recommend it to anyone looking to get out of the city for a night or two. The house has so much character and January was awesome! I'll definitely be back!
Beautiful location and very peaceful.
A charming spot, with a high ceilinged main room and massive stone fireplace. It's rustic boho chic, not the Ritz, but that's the point. The porch is incredibly peaceful. You feel like you've really gotten away, but the cabin is easily accessible from L.A. Easiest to take your own food and wine and stay in. Good place to start or finish a screenplay, they shot the Robin Hood movies in the surrounding forest.
Beautiful setting. Great views of the lake. Wonderful interior style with fresh flowers and house plants throughout. You're truly living amongst the birds. My girlfriend thought there were fairies in the garden! I loved my morning swim across the lake.
