I am a retired woman who goes off overseas for months at a time. The reason I rent out rooms is to cover the costs of support I give to a couple of Syrian students in Turkey. When I am at home I like a quiet life. Sometimes I will sit around the kitchen table over a meal and talk to my guests. Other times I switch off and retreat to my room to study, Skype English lessons, or watch TV.
My house is not a hotel. Many guests ask for a room when their profile is not sufficient for me to be able to make a decision. I like guests to be very independent and not need much support from me. I am not likely to be here for much of the time and leave the house in the care of my adult son.
My life motto? Seriously, from Sartre: “You can always make something out of what you've been made into.”
