Great place, just as it looks in the photos. Very central location. Easy communication with the host. Couldn't have asked for more!
We had a great stay at Silas's place in Golden Hill. The house has been nicely done up while retaining a lot of the original fittings and character. Silas was easy to deal with, offered any information we needed (including local bar and restaurant recommendations) and very responsive to queries. The beds are very comfortable. The location makes it easy to get around and on the freeways -- you can cross the city in 10 minutes. I'd definitely recommend the place for those seeking something other than a bland modern place or hotel.
We had a great experience at Silas' home in San Diego! Located in the Golden Hill neighborhood, the home is close to great coffee shops, taco shops, the Gaslamp Quarter, Balboa park and the Zoo. Golden Hill is a great neighborhood with friendly people and many walkable markets and eateries. You can drive to the Gaslamp in about 5 minutes. Easy access to the 94/5/15/805 freeways.
The house was perfect for my family. The kitchen was stocked with everything you needed to cook a meal. Silas even had some light snacks and other goodies stocked for our consumption. The house itself was clean and comfortable for my family of 5. We felt right at home.
We hope to stay at Silas' place on our next trip to San Diego. Thank you Silas!
Silas was a great communicator, he left books and maps about San Diego in the house and gave advice. He also left very nice oranges when we arrived. The house is as described, it's an old house and there is work in progress, but it's spacious and the furniture are good quality.
The neighborhood is nice and close from everything (5 minutes drive to Balboa Park). The house is very close to the freeway, which might be an issue if you are noise sensitive.
Silas was great communicating via email. The check in process was seamless! My family and I enjoyed our stay in his home. The neighborhood is a great walking neighborhood! I have family in the same area so I know my way around! We will definitely be back to stay at Silas's place!
Great place! We loved it and hope to come back!!
Silas has a wonderful house in a very especial localization. It's near downtown and the Balboa park. Silas is always reachable if you have any doubt. Definitely a great place to stay.
Although the house feels very old, a bit rickety, and has no central AC, we still really enjoyed our stay! The house is just across the street from highway 94, so there was a lot of traffic noise. Also to keep the house cool we had to run the AC window units in both bedrooms half the night.
The house is in a really interesting neighborhood, with a mix of other old Craftsman houses, apartments, Adobe buildings, Victorians, and just a couple blocks away from restaurants, grocery stores, and coffee shops without seeming like you are in the dense city. One part of Balboa park is within walking distance, but you'll have to drive to reach the museums and the zoo. Still, it was a great location for just about everything you could want to do in San Diego.
The neighborhood felt safe and other than the traffic noise, there weren't any disturbances. We brought our 19 month old daughter along and she loved exploring the house and there were very few things we had to keep her away from. Silas, the host, thankfully left the AC on in the spare bedroom and let us check in a few hours early so that she could nap.
Overall it was a great place to stay and I recommend it to anyone!
We truly enjoyed our stay in San Diego and our accommodation at Golden Hill in a charming craftmann house owned by Silas. We immediately sensed a safe and nice neighbourhood. The house is fully functional and easy to get familar with. It is spacious and perfekt for a family, even one with teenage boys. After a very...very long day out, we always looked forward returning home for a nice beer on the veranda. Silas is an ecxellent host. Dont forget to ask him about the fabulous blue grass brunch place. He even send us tourist books to use!!!
Sorry for our "missing the Day for waste discharge" Stupid danes!! But now we have learned how it Works in the USA ;-)
We will recommend Silas house to anyone who goes to San Diego
This house was absolutely perfect for our couples weekend away. It's centrally located so it was just a short drive to wherever we wanted to go. The neighborhood was quiet and we were able to park two cars right out front. Silas was very attentive and extremely helpful throughout our visit.
I will absolutely stay here again on my next trip out to San Diego!
Silas stayed at our vacation rental cottage and left it in tip top shape. We would be happy to host him again anytime.
Silas and his friends were great! Very good communication and a smooth stay.
