I recommend Claire's house to anybody looking for a fun, affordable and cozy stay in Kampala. Though there were minor issues as the house is under renovation, overall it was one of the most beautiful experiences of my life, thanks to the people and the location. Be prepared to wake up to the sounds of a myriad birds. The house is extremely safe and accessible. Looking forward to being there again, Claire!
I spent a wonderful two weeks in Claire's lovely house in March 2015. Claire is a fantastic host and makes you feel very welcome and at home from the moment you arrive. It's the little touches like the welcome note, fresh flowers in the house, etc. that make this place extra special. The house is situated in a nice leafy part of Kampala, only a 15-20 boda drive from the centre of town so it's the perfect base to explore the city while at the same time having a lovely tranquil place to come back to in the evening. Rooms are a good size and clean and all of the staff are friendly and very attentive. If you're looking for a comfortable, affordable place to stay in Kampala and meet cool people, book in now, you won't be disappointed! Thanks for everything Claire, I had a great stay!!
Hi Sarah, So pleased that you enjoyed your stay. You are welcome back any time. I wish you well in your new apartment. Claire
Claire has the perfect house which is why we went back for another week! See my first review just below for all the details
Claire's house is perfect. Big clean rooms with Dailey room service and free laundry. It's a big house in a safe part of town. She also has a gate guard 24/7 which is nice. There are restaurants and wifi in walking distance as well as a country club where you can play tennis, workout, go for a swim, or just enjoy western food and good wifi. There are also other people staying at her house so you'll make good friends quickly. Claire also invited guests to things her friends were doing like boating to an island and going out to see Hamlet. All in all 5 stars all around. I can't imagine a better place for the price.
So pleased that you enjoyed your stay. Claire
I stayed at Claire's place for a couple of weeks. The listing was just as described and the host was lovely. Claire was flexible with my check-out date, since I was not sure how long it would take for me to get everything in order in Kampala before heading up north to Gulu. The location of the place is great -- quiet and within walking distance of a gym. Consistent electricity, hot showers (with towels provided), mosquito nets, etc. everything one needs and would hope for!
I came to work in Kampala for 2 weeks - my stay would have been completely different if I hasn't had the good fortune to stay with Claire. It has SUCH a warm, friendly and family vibe. The house and garden is beautiful and comfortable and you can make your own food and socialise as you wish. Above all, Claire, Grace and Bosco and the team are just the most hospitable and lovely hosts - thank you so much!!
This was a lovely place and perfect for my daughter and I for the time spent. We were made very welcome by Claire and her wonderful staff too! Every provision, with the exception of food, was there and kept in an excellent, clean, usable state. A lovely front patio and outdoor space, our bathroom was "shared" but I do think we were blessed to have it all to our selves. This is a lovely neighborhood on a hill so we had a regular breeze and relatively few mosquitos. Just a 15 minutes walk (possibly shorter when you aren't with a four year old and visiting all the way!) are shops and even a coffee shop that we frequented. I always felt safe and taken care of.
A lovely house in a beautiful, green, and quiet part of Kampala. Terrific garden! The location makes for very quick access to downtown Kampala via bodas or taxis, yet you feel like you’re “away from it all.” Claire and her staff are extremely hospitable, and the house attracts a great group of interesting and friendly people. I can’t imagine a more comfortable and pleasant place to stay, whether for a few days or a much longer period.
So pleased that you enjoyed the house and all the people in it. All best wishes. Claire
Lovely house in one of the nicer (and more local) areas of Kampala! Great to meet likeminded people and make friends whilst abroad!
Staying at Claire's place on Makindyke Hill in Kampala was brilliant, a fantastic way to see Kampala. There's a great atmosphere at the house itself with fellow guests and its close to nearby Kabalagala, Kansanga and Gaba. Claire is a really generous host and was great with advice ahead of your trip as you need!
The house is close enough to easily get into the city but without the hassle of the centre's bustle. Nearby Coffee at Last is a close walk and has full access to wifi. It was great having such easy use and access to the fully kitted out kitchen, access to filtered water and being looked after so well by Claire's house keepers Grace and Jessica. The garden is lovely and you'll never meet friendlier dogs!
Having the opportunity for Claire's regular driver Jimmy to pick us up to and from the airport was also great. A great place to stay!
Thanks so much for you very positive response. I am pleased that it all worked out so well for you and I am only sorry that I was not around during your visit. You are welcome back anytime.
Don't hesitate to host Claire and her friend. They arrived by bike from Bruges at our B&B. Very nice and friendly people. The left everything perfectly. Welcome back anytime! Thanks for staying in our B&B in Gent, Ruth&Etienne
Claire and her friend were lovely and also an Airbnb host for those of you wishing to go to Kampala !!!
