From Staten Island, live in Portland OR I like to eat and own two restaurants.
A charming cottage in a darling neighborhood -- coffee shops, restaurants and yoga studios abound!
I especially enjoyed the shower ... and fragrant shower products!
When I stayed there, it was in the middle of a crazy blizzard -- but even so, the place was cozy and warm.
Two thumbs up. :)
My girlfriend and I spent a snowy weekend in Dayna's cottage, and it was an oasis: cozy, relaxing, centrally located, and complete with cable tv and internet (for the Olympics, obviously). The cottage is in the heart of the Alberta Arts District, walkable to a number of excellent food and drink options. We took full advantage!
This little space was cozy and adorable, and put together with great attention to detail. The construction and decor were modern and unique and I enjoyed marveling at the details. Very thoughtfully put together.
The location was fantastic. A block form Albert street, but some great restaurants and coffee nearby, on the same block as well.
We stayed only one night, so this was perfect. Had we stayed a few days, the place would have seemed a bit cramped. Walking through the courtyard of the restaurant is not really a big deal, but we did not use the hot tub since it did not feel very private.
Overall this place is really cute and fun to stay in. I would give it a full five stars if the accomodations and hot tub were a bit more private from the restaurant.
Dayna herself was great. Responsive and friendly, five stars for her!
The Kuza Garden Cottage is wonderful. My girlfriend and I stayed in Portland for one night and this made it a great experience. The owner built, on the same property, her restaurant, home and this awesome cottage in the backyard.
The hot tub was great, I can see why some people think it's awkward with the restaurant in view, but we were there during the winter so nobody was eating outside. My only warning is that it's not 100% secluded or quiet in the area.
I recommend, if you stay, to eat at her restaurant. Fantastic food and cocktails! She also owns a restaurant down the street called DOC that has wonderful deserts. Keep in mind that you should get reservations if you want to dine at DOC.
I highly recommend this place. 5 stars! We will definitely come back.
This place is gorgeous! I don't understand how it isn't booked every night of the year. It shares a patio with the neighboring Japanese restaurant which is super convenient however it can be a little odd to be in the hot tub when the restaurant is open for service. Other than that the Cottage is an absolute gem with very nice design and the smell of jasmine all around it.
Overall we had a great time at the Kuza Cottage. The cottage was decorated beautifully and had tons of great amenities. Inside and out it was gorgeous; the host definitely has great taste! It was really fun staying in the Art’s District, so many great shops and eateries close by, try Salt & Straw (best ice cream ever!)
Upon arrival, it threw me off that the cottage was literally 15 feet from the back patio of the restaurant. The restaurant was open when we arrived and it felt very strange walking back and forth with our luggage while the folks dining outside stared at us like we were crazy. We were most excited about the “24 hour private access to the hot tub", but we felt weird using it while the restaurant was still open because there was no separation or wall. We waited for the restaurant to close to get in the hot tub and it was amazing once we got in.
A few nice additions to the cottage would be:
A Wall or screen separating the hot tub area from the dining area
A welcome book with details on how to use everything and some information about the cottage (we had to guess)
More lights in the garden, we couldn't see anything when we were trying to get in the tub
Also, both nights we stayed we were woken up at 2:30 am by someone rolling a giant trashcan back and forth behind our cottage. I don’t know if this was trash from the restaurant, but it was aggravating to wake up to.
All of the amenities made up for the flaws that we encountered and knowing what I know now I would definitely stay again, I just hope they add a wall around the garden.
With a few improvements this place could be perfect!
This little oasis in the middle of the city is perfect. The hot tub and wonderful showers makes this a great getaway. The extra bonus is the room service from 2 great restaurants, they were closed during our stay but it is a very nice bonus if you get to use it.Dayna is very nice and helpful host
Dayna is great
Dayna, an Airbnb host, was a wonderful visitor. She was independent, easily finding her way around and meeting locals as she went. Her experience as a traveler was evident. She was a fantastic conversationalist. Her natural interest, curiosity and friendliness made her the dream guest.
