As we arrived to Munnar and Philips place, we were met by smiles and welcomes, and a well needed cup of tea. The check-in was smooth and the treehouse comfy - I had chosen it for it's originality and we stayed 2 nights there as planned, then opted to stay one more night in Munnar but moved to the main building as it was New Years Eve.
All the staff was really nice and the food excellent, a special thanks to the two maids who barely spoke English but did everything with a smile!
The budget rooms at the Estate Residency are VERY basic. The environment is nice as they are situated on the Cardomom Farm, which is what attracted us to this bnb. The family are pleasant and offer a basic friendly service.
Staying in the treehouse was a wonderful experience. Philip and Annie are lovely, kind people who made me feel very welcome and at home, and were very helpful to me before and during my stay. They were there to assist with anything I needed and ready to chat and be sociable without being at all obtrusive. The view from the treehouse is spectacular! The room inside the treehouse is very small as is the bathroom - but I knew this, so it was not a problem and the space has been used very well.
The location is great - a bit out of town but with everything still easy to access. I had a great massage very close to the accommodation (Annie booked it for me) and there is a theatre only a few minutes' walk away with daily performances of Kathakali (dance) and Kalaripayattu (martial arts) - both spectacular and interesting, and well worth seeing. Philip and Annie also helped with organising a trip to a nearby spice farm, and a driver for my onward journey; and Philip took me for a (quick - only because it had been pouring rain) walk to see the cardamom, pepper and other things they grow on their land. The cardamom was being harvested at the time of my visit, and the smell from the smokehouse where the cardamom was drying in the oven was amazing (the cardamom season is many months long, so there is a good chance of enjoying that as an added bonus of a stay here)!
My only minor issue was that I had a bit of a problem getting water pressure in the shower, but maybe I didn't operate it properly.
Very friendly service from staff and the meals were fabulous! Thanks so much Philip and Annie. I would definitely come back here.
Nice guest house on a really beautiful place. Only 10km from Munnar, in à peppermint and cardamon plantation, Phillip and his family are really good people to have time with
