Our two nights spent in the Jungle Room at Ritchie's place was one of the most incredible experiences ever. We got lost trying to find the place and stopped at a hotel and got them to phone him. Within 10 minutes Ritchie was there to pick us up and lead the way to his home in paradise. We loved the room, no windows, just gauze to keep the bugs out. Fell asleep and woke up to the wonderful sounds of nature, the running river and the amazing fresh, ocean breeze. Ritchie went above and beyond, sharing his breakfast with us, giving us invaluable tips and teaching us various things about the beautiful country of Costa Rica. After only two nights, we felt as though we had known Ritchie our whole lives. When we return, there is no other place we will stay but with Ritchie.
Richie was kind enough to pick us up at the bus stop and drive us to his beautiful home. He also upgraded us to his suite a few days before hand when I inquired about a place to cook.
His setting is remote, peaceful, and in the heart of the jungle. I especially enjoyed the natural soaking pool during the warmest part of the day. Richie drove me to the bus station to get tickets for the following day, then to a private beach, and returned later in the day to take me back to his place. My daughter was sick while we were there so unfortunately we had to cut our visit short. He provided her with some Aleve when we ran out. He also cut up fresh pineapple and papaya for us for breakfast! He was the best host one could ask for, and if you have to be sick in CR , Ritchie's is the place to be. Bed and pillows are the first comfy ones we've had!
thank you again, I hope we can see each other again. Richie
It was such a pleasure to finally meet Richie! He was incredibly thoughtful and filled us with information prior to and during our arrival. We are thankful that he shared his unique home with us and that we were able to share the passion he has for the beautiful area where he lives. Richie had nice cold beer ready for us upon arrival and we enjoyed a great conversation. He was also very respectful of our privacy, yet willing to assist in any way. In fact, he even took us on a hike down to the waterfall on his property and pointed out the local flora and fauna. Our stay was absolutely memorable and we will be back!
I just don't know what to say-Richie's spot is a must stay! If you are in Dominical or Uvita i would seriously recommend this mountain experience! Richie was a wonderful host providing us with info for hikes starting at his drive way into untouched forest. He has a beautiful garden and a soaking tub with the same view in the pictures. And you have access to a protected beach. He even provided me with a new bag of local coffee to make in the room! The space is like glamping almost because it is four walls with a lot of just screens. It was magical to be in the mountains listening to both the jungle and the ocean. That said if you are a light sleeper and not use to light and noise you might have trouble sleeping. All over Costa Rica seemed to lightening storms at night during our June week there.
Couldn't have had a better experience staying at Richie's place in the hills above the coast. Falling asleep and waking up to the sounds of the jungle (and the ocean on quiet nights) and cool air was a nice break from accommodations down by the ocean.
Richie was an excellent host who shared his bananas and awesome banana bread with us. We're only sorry we couldn't have stayed longer to chat with him more!
As others have mentioned, it's a steep drive up. But, don't be deterred, the trek is totally worth it.
Terrific host, beautiful setting, comfy room. It's about 3 km up a bumpy road from the main highway, which might hinder some people, but we loved it. Really enjoyed the quiet beach and little waterfall.
Richie was AWESOME! His house is in a beautiful spot, away from the beach but truly in a jungle setting. Richie was very helpful and even cooked us a delicious vegetarian breakfast in the morning!
The property was quiet and we spent our mornings reading books and resting. There are a couple waterfalls nearby and a short walk up the road from Richie's house are some amazing views of Playa Ballenas.
We would certainly stay with Richie again! Hopefully we can make our way back to Costa Rica again soon.
We had a Great time at Richies place! We stayed up in the tower and we really felt like jungle birds. Got to hear and be right in the jungle each morning and enjoy cooler breezes for sleeping then if we were down by the ocean. The drive up is an adventure too but only a few minutes from really beautiful beaches. Didn't get to see the waterfall, next time. He was a great super friendly host. Highly recommend staying at his place. He greeted us at a restaurant and led us up to his place, offered us cold beer and fresh fruit. We will be back. Thanks again Richie.
Richie is a wundervoll layed back host and we had a really great time staying with him! We had the room on the 1st floor in the tower and it is as shown on the picture, very clean, cosy and with a great view. The beach at Villa Leonore was the most beautiful beach we've seen in Costa Rica. Richie was a great help with everything and ask him for the hidden waterfall! :) We can definitely recommend Richie and his place and if we ever return to Costa Rica we will stay with hin again.
Richie takes care of you, however clueless you might be in the depths of Costa Rica. He has an idyllic location up in the hills, complete with paths to waterfalls and rivers. After bananas for breakfast you can head out 10 minutes to the beach, where Richie has an arrangement with a private beach owner for access. You can station here to chill, eat, relax and plan. You will sleep better at Richie's place than anywhere else in Costa Rica. There is magic under and over the ground.
