Charles and Meena was super sweet and very kind. My flight got in later than expected and even though I'm sure it was a nuisance, they were able to greet me and show me around.
Just note that if you stay here you are about 2 kilometers away from downtown. It didn't bother me at all, as I walked pretty much everywhere, but if you're the kind of person who wants to be in the thick of things, you may want to look elsewhere. Otherwise- I say go for it!
We only saw Charles once, but he was a friendly, welcoming host. It was interesting to chat with him about his life in Thailand, and he was also happy to give us directions and ideas of places to visit in Chiang Mai. The room was as depicted - comfortable, with lots of space. We appreciated the chance to use the cafe kitchen to make a couple of meals, and also the chance to do some free laundry.
My friend and I had a great stay at Charles guesthouse. The room is very generous, very clean and the bed smelled nice and fresh... Made us feel at home and enjoy our vacation. The cafe Bay is a must. Unfortunately we were able to try it only once due to open hours. But next time we are in Chiang Mai... It is on our priority list ... Thanks Charles and Meena, you were great hosts
Charles is a very nice guy. The room is neat and comfortable and the transport is convenient. I will recommend to my friends who want to come Chiangmai.
Just wanted to add to all the other strong reviews here to highly recommend staying here. 5 stars for a great stay.
For the room itself, everything was as pictured: clean, comfortable, quiet, relaxing. The Food4Thought cafe downstairs had delicious healthy food that was so convenient to get before/after sightseeing for the day. Great place to relax and check email & plan things to do.
It's easy to find just a "place to stay" especially in a city like Chiang Mai but I really considered myself lucky to meet Charles and the staff at the Food4Thought Cafe: Bay, Fah, and Rin. Just genuinely great, generous and awesome people who went out of their way to help with any questions I had about things to do, directions, etc. Getting to know them a bit was a big highlight of my trip that I really appreciated.
My only regret was that my visit to Chiang Mai was too short. The next time I come to Chiang Mai, I hope to stay here again. Thanks again Charles for everything!
It is located in a very good area (with local market, super market, grocery, local cheap Thai restaurants, western food restaurants and still in a very peaceful zone only 10 minutes walking from the old town).
Had no opportunity to meet Charles, but the 2 waitresses from the Organic Cafe are really nice and friendly.
The room is clean and the restaurant outside area is really cozy.
First, the room: The space is as described. It's large enough for two, well-lit with lots of windows, has a desk, and a decently comfortable bed. It is a shared bathroom which can be sort of awkward, especially with the two doors.
The space totally became our home while in Chiang Mai; it was very nice to return after long day of cooking classes or trekking. We stayed for a total of 6 nights and it was tough to leave.
The apartment is quite a distance from the old city. Our 'do-over' would be to rent a scooter bike for the entire stay. We ended up spending just as much as a rental on tuk-tuks each day. And the mobility would have been nice. That said, we did a lot out of the old city. It's not a deal breaker in my opinion.
And for the hosts: Charles and Meena were absolutely awesome. They are both very friendly, personable, willing to help and recommend. After an small accident and scare our first day, they took us to the hospital in their personal vehicle, delaying their work commute. It showed the type of people they are. They continued to check in on us throughout our stay, both in person and via AirBnB. I can't think of greater hosts.
And make sure to eat at Thought 4 Food below. Great food. And Bay has some great coffee. And ask Charles about his work with Karen refugees and agricultural systems.
Highly recommended. We'd go back in a heartbeat.
Charles's room is so wonderful that I have to say it's really far beyond my expectation and the same as the pictures. Have a nice sleep there.
Second time at Organic Cafe, as always, a wonderful experience. Very flexible and accommodating. This time I stayed in the room on ground floor, which was comfy and nice. Window opens to the garden and it's very relaxed environment. Very convenient to get to Nimman road, either a short walk or 3 minute ride with pick-up. If have time try their cake and Kombucha.
My experience at Charles guest house was just great. I really felt at home during my stay there. The room was perfect, very clean and had everything I needed. Charles and his wife run an organic cafe just downstairs from which has a really nice garden and really cool to relax and unwind. The location is also fabulous, short walk to Chiang Mai university as well Nimman road which is the hip, happening area. All in all I can highly recommend Charles guesthouse.
