I am an artist and professor at Emily Carr University of Art and Design in Vancouver, BC. I have degrees in sculpture and anthropology and its my love of different cultures that informs my art. I'm particularly interested in folk culture, performances, festivals, and carnivals, and how these celebrations play a role in creating social cohesion through collective expression.
I love to cook new and exciting recipes (I try to make something new every week), I read widely, and I love being out in nature; walking and hiking are two of my favorite activities. My other big passion is museums, particularly small local museums that provide a window into local cultures. A day in a museum is a good day, and one of my favorite courses to teach is about the intersection of art and anthropology through museums.
I am a relaxed, friendly guest who will treat your property with respect, and if you like may even draw your portrait as a souvenir of my stay!
