we loved our stay here - this is a very comfortable flat with unique decor. it's right in the middle of dumfries, so a brilliant location for exploring the town and surrounding countryside. the bottles of beer in the fridge were very welcome - as was the coffee, tea etc in the well-stocked kitchen. and the sun shone, too, for our easter holidays - perfect!
Luke was a charming and friendly host. He made me feel at home in his wonderful old house. Bedroom was a delight, and at last wonderful feather pillows. Plus the great cat who popped in for a late night play.
Luke was an excellent host, made us feel really welcome and responded quickly to enquiries and requests. An lovely flat with great character, excellently appointed. We had a great time and would definitely stay again.
Made very welcome like one of the family. House in central Dumfries. Easy access to all amenities.
Luke cooked my supper which was delicious.
Very comfortable clean bed.
Transported back in time to when the house was built as there is the life story of the house visible in the building.
The place was old and rustic, which was great. The bathroom was modern and kept up with, and the place was overall an enjoyable experience. Luke was very helpful and friendly, he gave us keys for the night and took the time to give a tour of the place, tell us about the city and himself, and even drew us a map of some recommended places. Had a few enjoyable conversations.
What an unexpected treasure of a find right in the centre of Dumfries! Luke, an architect by profession, has carefully restored a whole Georgian house, built in the early 1800s, to be an extremely comfortable place to stay - but, very unusually, he has managed to leave the house very much in the 19th century! Which is to say: original locks on the doors, walls in what seem to be the original distemper hues of soft warm greens browns and creams - shades and finishes you rarely see today. Unvarnished stairs and floorboards.
And against this 200-year-old background, modern appliances, a lovely Smeg fridge and elegant lamps, a brilliant large jacuzzi bath, great bedding, warm cozy rooms, and very comfortable beds. An elegant and unusual mix of styles, and a treat to be able to straddle two such different time periods for a few days.
We had come to Dumfries for the screening at the town's South West Picture Show of a film made back in 1981 by my husband and his American colleague, and Luke managed to get a ticket to be there when we presented the film, which was much appreciated. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely stay there again on our next trip to Dumfries- thank you Luke!
Don't let the peeling paint on the front door deter you... or the clutter in the entry way. Your room is very clean, cozy, and comfortable. It is also a rarity in British accommodations, an "ensuite" - which means a private shower and 'water closet' (toilet) adjacent to the room. Luke is a very gracious host who has a deep knowledge and appreciation for the exceptionally rich architectural heritage of this area (ask him about the 17th century buildings that were recently torn down a few blocks away). Oh, and he makes an outstanding English breakfast if you ask. The place is also within easy walking distance of the center of the town, which is full of shops, restaurants, and historical amenities.
Luke was a genial and hospitable host who cheerily went out his way to be accommodating. His home is as charming as described here and his scrambled egg and bacon breakfast is not to be missed!
Luke is a very amiable and attentive host, he was very easy to liaise with to book the room and was there to meet me and help with visitors parking when I arrived.
The house is simply charming. A sensitively restored and delightful place full of quirks and filled with all manner of interesting features, books and other curios.
The room is spacious and airy with an en-suite bathroom and shower and a nice view into the garden. I had a very restful night's sleep.
Luke was welcoming and generous and I felt relaxed and at home in the house and comfortable to help myself to tea etc as advised and to make use of the kitchen and sitting room areas as required. I am a musician and I discovered that the house has a wonderful acoustic!
Luke is busy with work and in and out of the property but made sure I had keys and everything I needed and very generously set out breakfast for me in the morning before he left the house. His cat is also very helpful in looking after you when Luke is not there!!
The house is in the centre of Dumfries and a few minutes walk from all amenities and attractions such as Robert Burn's House and the Burn's Mausoleum. There is a lovely art gallery next door too which Luke and others helped to set up as a cooperative I believe.
This was a very pleasant stopover, I would be happy to stay again and I highly recommend Luke as a host.
Lovely house with plenty of character and quirks. Very handy for the centre of Dumfries and Luke was helpful, friendly and polite.
Luke was always courteous, and was a clean, tidy and an unobtrusive guest. He is welcome to stay anytime.
