It was a wonderful place, and a lovely holiday cottage! Delia was very kind and helped us with finding our way. Highly recommended if you are looking for a quiet and peaceful stay in rural Andalucia. The descriptions of walks/ hikes in the surrounding area she provided were very accurate.
Where do we even start? We had a wonderful time.
Delia was incredibly helpful and patient with our email enquiries, and when we arrived, as well as being just thoroughly warm and friendly, she introduced us to the village and its ways and throughout made sure we had everything we needed and that we could make the absolute most of our time there.
The house itself is really lovely. A lot of thought has gone in to its layout and its furnishings: it's comfortable and simple and it's a very easy place to live. And there are views down from the roof terrace over the village and out across the valley.
The village is small and very quiet and amid beautiful hills which are planted with almonds, figs and grapes. From the house you can pick a track and walk out among them as far as you like. There are dozens of different walks: to cork forests; nearby villages; to the gorge; the spring... There are birds and mountain goats and wild boar.
There's a bar, two shops, a van that comes with fresh fish from the coast and a van that comes with bread every day.
Could really go on and on describing how good a time we had, how friendly everyone was, how you buy wine in plastic bottles from people's bodegas, how stray cats make friends with you, how there are mules and chickens.
We wanted to stay at least another month.
What sweethearts you are, thank you! I'm especially glad you mentioned the walks - and the plastic bottles of course; an important detail!
Delia picked us op personally from the top of the village to bring us to the moorish house. It is a lovely house with a cosy kitchen and a sunny terrace with a nice view of the valley. We loved being in such a small village with less than 60 inhabitants. The supermarket was nearby in a house, with most basic food stuff. Delia invited us for a drink in her lovely bodega, and we enjoyed her company and the nice homemade wine of her own vineyard. It was very nice talking about travelling and baking and wine. There are nice white villages nearby to visit.
Perfect getaway for those searching for an individual experience away from the typical mass tourism routes. Located in the beautiful original small town Alfornon in mid of Las Alpujarras you can really break with daily routines and enjoy the awesome nature on walks or just sitting on the great terrace with some wine homemade from the villagers.
Delia is such a great host preparing everything for a perfect stay. The flat is very clean and you find a full equiped kitchen even with lots of spices and oil etc. There is also a walking guide with some routes where you can choose your daily walks. All in all we had a great time. Thanks Delia for that unique experience
The listing was accurate and the flat proved to be delightful, spacious and well appointed. Delia very generously made me feel welcome and at home. The remote village is small and quiet with narrow streets on a steep hillside. There is a church, 2 small grocery shops and 1 bar that opens in the evening. I was fortunate to be there to enjoy the activities of the fiestas but at other times one needs to be prepared to be self-reliant.
We had a fantastic time at Delia's place. The house was clean and airy and a perfect remote retreat for us in the Spanish hills.
The most peaceful and beautiful place! We absolutely loved our time in Alfornon and in Delias beautiful house. One of the best things was the morning Yoga and Chi Gung on the great roof terrace. Unfortunatly Deila was away in England while we were at the house, but she had made sure someone would give us the keys and showed us around the house and the little village. Everything was done up nicely and we felt really comfortable and everything we needed was there. I liked the tasteful, individual and simple decor very much!
All the people in the village were friendly and helpful. The two little trips to the beach were great, too. Delia had told us how to find a very beautiful secluded beach which we loved. I will definitely stay longer next time!!
Thank you for your lovely review! I am just working on some finishing touches to your little house! I hope I have the chance to meet you one day!
From our very first point of contact with Delia, she was remarkably warm and more than willing to answer all of our questions about Alfornon and the cosy Moorish casa. Upon our arrival, despite being delayed for four hours, she awaited us in Orgiva to welcome us and bring us to the village. As we chose not to hire our own car, this was our only way of getting to the village and she made it extremely easy for us to make our way to Alfornon! Although arriving so late at night, Delia was very accommodating, telling us everything we needed to know about the house, and even bringing us to the local shop. It was amazing to spend some time in this little secluded village away from all of the busyness of urban life. Everything that Delia writes in the description of Alfornon and its magnificent surroundings is absolutely adequate, but to really understand what the atmosphere is like here, one must experience it for themselves. The villagers are friendly and smiling, and the house itself is a beautiful space to be in, keeping the spirit of old times. There are some striking details which are the product of Delia´s fantastic creativity. The compact kitchen served us very well, as we are enthusiastic cooks and the odd thing that it was not equipped with could easily be borrowed from Delia without a problem, which was very much appreciated. The panoramic vista of the mountains from the roof terrace was such a unique thing to experience, rising to it each morning was so enriching and a breath of fresh air. There are many trails across the mountains that are visible from this rooftop view; the beauty of Alfornon is that these walks are immediately accessible from it, making the necessity for a car very minimal. The joy of being able to enter the valley and hills each morning and walk for hours, without meeting another, is something very rare and essential to experience. We feel very lucky to have found this place on Airbnb, and we think it is amazing that Delia is facilitating people in having these beautiful times. Delia herself was always a pleasure and delight to deal with, even generously giving us some of her own potatoes, and organic wine, grown from her personal grapevines, which was really something very special. Gracias Delia por todo! Petra y Lucia.
