Out going, open minded, independent thinker.
Dominic and Helena are wonderful and hospitable. They laid the road work for an adventure of a lifetime. The fireflies blend Into the night sky at Jurassic park. Simply magical
We stayed in some amazing places in the Dominican Republic but this was probably the best. Nestled in the middle of the jungle Jurassic Park is a real escape. The thatched roof huts where you stay are basic but beautiful with four poster beds carved out of local wood and a hammock on the front porch that you can swing from while being buzzed by fireflies.
There are a few comments about noise in the neighbourhood. Yes, there are some other houses in the area (you can’t see them) but we found it very quiet and relaxing.
Dominic and Helena were brilliant hosts and this is a great base for adventures into the surrounding countryside. Generous in the advice they gave us about the different trips that are available, they helped us decide where to go and did the booking for us.
Jurassic Park isn’t for everyone. If you’re in Las Terrenas for the amazing beaches nearby you’d be better off staying in town. To reach the town centre from Jurassic Park takes about 10mins on motoconcho and costs 100 pesos per person. Dominic and Helena are kind enough to call them whenever they are needed.
If, however, you fancy somewhere where you can go and switch off from the world and at the same time get to know the Dominican Republic better than just the beaches, Jurassic Park is fantastic.
A word on some of the local trips we took.
We took a fantastic trip to the El Limon waterfall. On Dominic’s recommendation we went with Santi’s ranch, which did a decent deal for horses up to the waterfall with a guide and a meal back at the restaurant. Highly recommended, the guide was patient and allowed us to stick around at the falls long enough to have the pool to ourselves.
Our trip to Los Haitises national park was less successful. Dominic set us up with a local guide called Jose but unfortunately he was absolutely useless. The day started badly with most of the morning wasted sat in his friend’s house while he was out strolling around shopping for food and petrol. The trip itself was a disaster. He took us out in a boat that was too small in waves that were too big. Without asking us or telling us he instead took us to a canal and flat farmland while pretending it was the park. To top the day off, Jose then tried to kill us all by driving us back across the bay through waves that had got even bigger. It was extremely dangerous and both my girlfriend and the French couple we were travelling with were badly shaken by the time we made it back to shore.
It’s important to say that this was in no way Dominic’s fault. The feedback he’d had from a previous group who was positive. But given the danger Jose put us in and his general incompetence through the day I would advise using a different guide.
Lieu magnifique, accueil chaleureux.
A recommandé à toutes personnes voulant s'éloigner un peu de la ville.
We enjoyed the stay very much. Such a quiet and peaceful place to relax far away from everything. That's an important point - be aware you are outside and to get to the awesome beaches like playa Bonita or the cosy city center of las Terrenas you need to get a ride which costs around 100 pesos each one way.
I liked the open concept of the bungalow (there are no doors at all) and small details just like candles to enjoy a romantic dinner on the private terrace. The kitchen is well equipped and we also had a nice BBQ at the pool area as well. If you are looking for a quiet and relaxed vacation this is your place! For more action stay at the center where you have restaurants, bars, the club "la bodega" and beach in walking distance. You can hear the waves at night from your room but also a lot of noise from the street in the morning.
Dominic and Helena were wonderful hosts: warm, helpful and very responsive. The place itself is a real travel experience - in nature, simple, surrounded by locals. We had a great stay. Highly recommended if you like your travel off the beaten path.
We had a wonderful jungle experience. The bungalow was great and natural. We give our big approval to the eco-thinking Dominic is evolving. Insects make a lot of noise in the night, light flies is magic. The place is a little of the town so you'll see a different local everyday life. Prepare yourself on going by motor-taxis and shop groceries over the desk with your best spanish. Both Helena and Dominic was very helpful and we talked a lot. The bungalow-neighbors were also very sweet, we had some real nice evenings together. The place is open and invites to interacting. Chatting. Also, when the nearby dominican neighbors are having a party with there amazing loudspeakers it's possible to dance a bit of batacha on your jungle terrace. We did.
We loved Jurassic Park, we were impressed by the beauty of the surroundings and the jungle feeling. The fireflies were magical we felt like in a movie set. The bungalow was comfortable and Dominic and his wife were excellent hosts. We really enjoyed this place.
This was a really interesting stay for my boyfriend and I. Dominic and Helena were really kind in allowing us to stay for one night, when they typically require two nights. While Jurassic Park wasn't what we were expecting, in retrospect, it really added to the adventure of our trip in the DR. We would have loved to meet Helena and Dominic, but unfortunately we only saw Dominic for a few seconds on our way in. To other people wondering whether they should stay here, I would say that if you're interested in the experience of staying at Jurassic Park, and want to explore this area and the less traveled part of Las Terrenas, go for it. If you're just in town for a little while and want to experience the city, look somewhere else, as this isn't close to the action of Las Terrenas. You'll have to take a taxi or a motoconcho, which can be fun, but a little inconvenient. It's not an easily accessible area by foot or taxi, especially at night. All in all, it was a good experience for us, and we loved the grounds and swimming in the pool under the stars, but if we wanted to stay in Las Terrenas again, we'd probably stay closer to the city.
As every other reviewer has said, Dominic and Helena are the best hosts. They helped us so much before, during, and after our stay with them. They are the epitome of excellent customer service. They know the area very well and can give you excellent directions for anything you need or want to do. Helena even came out to the discoteca with us after we had checked out of Jurassic Park and into another hotel (preplanned move because we wanted a couple days on directly on the beach).
The property is gorgeous and the rooms are very clean. They provide you with a large jug of drinking water so you don't have to worry about always having a bottle. The kitchen is well stocked with dishes and some simple spices and coffee.
One of the best things about staying there were all the possible activities. They had a staff member walked us to a local restaurant for dinner and took guests on hikes through the property to get to the waterfalls. Make sure to pack good walking shoes so you can do these hikes. Helena also set up a excursion for us and other guests to go on to the El Limon waterfalls, which was amazing.
The breakfast is delicious. It may seem a little pricey but is worth it because it's homemade, large, and there are empanadas.
For internet, we weren't able to connect with our phones but we have crappy phones so that is probably why. They do have a hardwire and we happened to have a computer so it was no big deal.
For doing stuff off property, you can easily use the motos. They will seem scary to ride at first but it's completely safe. The moto ride down to the town/beach area is only about 100 pesos a moto and is a very quick ride.
At the end of the day we came to Las Terranas because of this property and it was the best decision we could have made about our vacation. The town is amazing and safe and the beaches are unbelievably beautiful (even the "not nice" ones). Do be careful not to venture out on your own anywhere other than the main LT town because the areas outside of town aren't as safe but you will be fine if you stay in the touristy areas.
