We had a wonderful stay at Jurassic Park. The hosts, Dominique and Helena were very accommodating and friendly. The atmosphere here is very laid back. The surroundings are beautiful and you are a short ride away from the beach/town by moto concho( about 10 to 15 minutes). Away from the busy town you are in a tropical setting with lots of jungly type trees, hummingbirds and salamanders while still close to some of the most beautiful beaches. We took a moto concho each day to the beach (Playa Bonita) and our guy would pick us up whenever we wanted. Do realize it adds about $25 a day (for two people) to have yourself transported back and forth. We liked the combination of beach and jungle cabana.
The cabana was simple but roomy and with everything you need to cook your own food. Very quiet, at night you hear frogs and crickets to lull you asleep.
Great experience! Definitely echoing other guests in wishing we could have stayed longer. We had three nights/two full days really and it wasn't enough to get out there like we wanted. Some of the things we wanted to do took a day or two on their own. Dominic's advice was excellent all around--beaches, excursions, restaurants, everything. Listen to him and his wife Helena! You won't regret (website hidden) is located in a neighborhood away from the real tourist section of Las Terrenas, which provided a serious immersion in the Dominican way of life. That said, it's probably not for everybody--knowing at least some Spanish is a huge help, and you'll have to be prepared to ride on the back of a motorcycle with a stranger to get into town. If that sounds like fun to you, this is your spot. It was certainly ours.
A fantastic experience. Dominic and Helena have perfected the "off the beaten track" lodging, with not only a harmonious relationship with nature, but a completely comfortable experience for guests. Running off the grid we had everything we needed. Warm water from the shower in the afternoon, a spring water pool to cool off in, screens in our open air bungalow, comfortable clean beds, a kitchen with everything we might need, and internet on our porch!!! This is a family place with chickens and rabbits and kids all a part of the buzz. Other guests were quiet at night, and respectful, and time seems to run with the sun. We had no problem with mosquitoes at all in February. We enjoyed breakfast several days with delicious fruit and eggs as well as empanadas that we had to go buy more of! Dominic will set you up with whatever you want to do. This is an ongoing project and it was fun to see everyone working and planning to always make this property more wonderful and accessible. Ramon is a kind and hard working grounds man who will help with whatever you need. Just give a little tip. Despite a language barrier, we forged a great friendship with this man will will never forget. We had so much fun with the kids too. People think of the beaches with the D.R., but it is the jungle I will always hold in my heart; thanks to this wonderful place and the people who have made it.
Dominic and Helena are very welcoming and warm people. It's a very relaxed and calm environment on the outskirts of Las Terrenas. Lovely breakfast. Beautiful vegetation. Comfortable bungalows with warm water for the showers which was nice!
Dominic and Helena are likely two of the most hospitable and friendly people I have ever met. Their laid back personalities made it even easier to enjoy what Las Terennas had in store for us. The grounds of Jurassic park were beautiful and secluded, like being in a jungle. So green and lush and unbelievably colorful. We loved that Dom and Helena were able to give us suggestions for whatever we felt like doing, either adventurous or lazy. They both know the area very well. My cousin and I had planned to stay in Las Terennas in Jurasic park for just 4 nights, but we ended up staying our whole ten days because of tre beauty we saw in Las Terennas and how comfortable Dom and Helena made us feel there. We will definitely be returning to stay with them again. We were also so happy to meet Ramón, one of the grounds keepers at the park, who took us on two amazing excursions into the mountains and to a beautiful remote and uninhabited beach.
Anyone would love staying (website hidden): all the wildlife at the park was so precious!
Very nice place. Cool to have a quiet place after the busy Terrenas town. If you rent a scooter, it's only 10min from the town or the beach. You're almost in the jungle : nice to hear the birds during the day and the insects at night, but a bit humid and quite a lot mosquitoes.
Thanks to Dominic and Helena for their help to come there and their good advices !
Jurassic Park was just beautiful. We felt like we were sleeping in the midst of a deep jungle.
Dominic and Helena were super helpful hosts. They provided us with a vast array of useful advice about beaches, places to visit, people to talk to, etc. Dominic has explored Las Terrenas himself and has a lot of interesting stories to tell and projects that he is involved in, so talking to him was always a good source of inspiration.
Jurassic Park is self sustaining and we really liked the idea behind the concept of the park, the broad variety of fruits and veggies that they were growing themselves.
In the end Helena was extremely helpful with regard to our departure and the different buses we were required to take and the motoconchos that brought us there (at 5 am in the morning).
All in all, we had a great experience and can only recommend the place. We are planning to come back at some point to join Dominic on one of his projects and maybe find a pot of gold in the process.
What an amazing place! Dominic, Helena and their kids are such lovely hosts. They were so helpful and had such great tips for activities. The way Jurassic Park is set up is gorgeous and it's hard not to feel at home. The only thing we regret is not having more time to spend there. Will definitely be heading back soon (can't wait to see the changes they're working on!) and highly recommend it to anyone who wants something different.
A short motoconcho ride outside of the village of Las Terrenas, Jurassic Park is the perfect place to stay if you want the jungle immersion experience. Dominic, his wife and young kids were delightful, and helpful with details on things to do in the area for an authentic Dominican experience. Go shopping while you're in town for food and make dinner in your bungalow if you want to avoid travelling back and forth to town at night. There's a lot of "wildlife" in the surrounding area, so if you're a light sleeper bring earplugs to avoid the roaming chickens morning calls!
