Absolutely great stay at the Casa Tranquila. It was cozy, comfortable, the A/C and the pool were very welcome after a whole day of walking to the beach or waterfalls (plus it is close to the waterfalls, so you save some time and steps). We saw lots of birds, howling monkeys, a scorpion, lizards...
Of course, it is not a easy walk from town. Not too long (25 minutes) but if you are carrying stuff the steep road can make it very difficult. We followed another reviewer's tip: buy all you need (water, some food to cook etc.) the first time and then travel light.
Do go to the restaurant/microbrewery next door (Clandestino). Excellent food and great beer, we loved it.
A lovely secluded spot perfect for relaxing, bird watching, and exploring the southern end of the peninsular. The apartment was very clean and excellently equipped, including a blender for making smoothies! Sitting out on the deck felt like you were in a tree house amongst the canopy. The swimming pool was great for a refreshing dip after a day on he beach or hiking to waterfalls. Perfect!
We were welcomed by Andres the housekeeper. He and his wife only speak Spanish, but even if there should be a problem due to the language, Tania responds fast to all requests. The Casa is beautifully situated in lush gardens and has everything you might need. We especially enjoyed the beautiful balcony. They even have a small pool, which we didn't use. The house is located about 5 Minutes by car from Montezuma. We read that you could also walk the hills up and down to town, but we prefered to go by car. If you choose to walk, don't forget to bring a flash. We also enjoyed the town of Montezuma very much, which has many lovely restaurants and some shops and of course a beautiful beach.
My family and I had a bit of difficulty adapting to the situation at first. We did struggle with getting a sense of the immediate area, given that Tania's caretakers, friendly as they were, spoke no English, and our Spanish was limited. We felt the effect of being in a very hot area, coming from a wintry climate, and the house did not seem to be able to be cooled enough for us. The pool was absolutely lovely, and very welcome. We struggled a bit also with limited kitchen elements. The house was meticulously clean, with a great garden setting.
What a wonderful spot! Clean, close to everything we wanted and far enough away that we had a quiet little oasis to return to after a fun day. This is my first airbnb experience and I found it simple to use and really appreciated the recommendations of our host. A great experience all round.
Before we go into how magical and amazing Casa Tranquila is, there is one thing that prospective guests should know: there is a huge hill (actually 3) leading to the home. If you don't have a car, be prepared for a steep trek that is about a mile. Hiking the hill in the evening is fine, but midday with backpacks was more of a challenge. Taxis are available from town for 5 dollars.
Ok, WE LOVED THIS PLACE!! We stayed an extra night because we loved it and felt so at home. The home is gorgeous, well equipped and very comfortable. The outdoor shower was awesome as well as the pool on the property. The kitchen has a blender and we made smoothies every morning and sat on the porch or in the hammock listening to birds.
Andres and MigDahlia, the caretakers who live next door, are amazing. They welcomed us warmly and were available for anything we needed and yet also gave us our privacy.
While in Montezuma, we enjoyed hiking to the waterfall- there is a trail at the end of the road which is narrow, or you can walk up the hill on the main road to Sun Trails and pay 4 dollars to go on their trial (with suspension bridges!). We also did a day trip to Isla de Tortuga for snorkeling, which was awesome! Hanging out downtown is fun- lots of travelers, good food and people watching. We hit a farmers market in the center park on saturday morning for some fresh fruit and veggies:)
Overall, this AirBnB experience was really great and we would highly recommend it to other travelers. Tania was also very available and helpful via email. We would definitely stay again and we wish we were still there!
Tania made us feel very welcome (virtually) and the housekeeper and groundskeepers were very helpful and kind. The location is dreamy, the property is very cute, the pool is AMAZING - there were monkeys hanging out nearby! We loved it!
We had a great time at Casa Tranquila. It's got an amazing view, we could see the ocean from our porch but mostly trees and flora full of beautiful birds, monkeys, butterflies. If you want a better view maybe stay in the main house, or by the pool. There were monkeys that greeted us as we entered. The caretakers are the perfect balance of helpful but giving you space and privacy. The room was clean and had everything we needed to cook (no oven, didn't need one). There were a few bugs that would come in at night but not too many, we didn't feel bothered by them. The airflow is nice high up on the hill, but if you prefer air conditioning was easy and works fine. The pool was great, we had it all to ourselves during our stay and loved that it was saltwater. It's great for a stargazing night swim as well.
The hill is a bit brutal, but nice to get away from everyone. We did not have a car at all but an ATV one day. We're in relatively good shape and were a little leg muscle sore by the end of our stay. I couldn't really wear nice sandals while in Montizuma, partly because you need substantial footwear for the grade of the hill but also in the summer the road was very dusty and it was like that all through town. We pretty much packed small packs with all the necessities of the day and only went up and down once maybe twice a day We would recommend that when you get to Montizuma, if you are coming by boat like we and many others did, stop at the supermarket buy the biggest jug of water (we averaged about one per day for 2ppl) so maybe buy for a few days and some groceries and take a taxi up so you are stocked. Then you can fill smaller bottles/hydration packs and avoid having to carry a heavy load.
Also there is a butterfly garden next door, it was beautiful and the guide there spoke English but also was able to accommodate some French visitors as well, they are very friendly and helpful as well.
We loved Casa Tranquila and Montizuma and would definitely like to return. There is nothing better than waking up with the sun, laying in the hammock sipping coffee and being greeted by nature. We found ourselves waking up and feeling so refreshed even though neither of us are usually morning people. Also Communication with the host was easy and she was quick to respond. I can't imagine if you are having any troubles that you wouldn't get immediate resolution. Great place, incredible value.
The host replied promptly to our emails and was quite helpful. We enjoyed the house, the view from the deck amazing, wildlife in the trees ,adequate kitchen and a great little pool.Only drawback was the (email hidden)e hill is quite daunting if you don't have a vehicle. However you are close to the falls, canopy tour and butterfly garden. We always enjoyed returning from the dusty and stiflingly how town of Montezuma
