Tom was great! We coordinated my arrival via messaging on Airbnb and then through phone calls. Though he was out when I arrived, his house felt warm and inviting, the signs to my room were great, and his welcome sheet gave me all the information I needed upon arrival. Upon first arriving at Tom's house a wonderful floral scent greeted me from his front yard.
After walking in and finding my room I felt at home and was able to quickly get on the internet to find a group of food carts close by. At different times, Tom's housemates all greeted me and helped me feel welcome in the house. When Tom arrived home, he welcomed me into his house and gave me a walk through of his Airbnb.
If your traveling to Portland, Tom's Airbnb would be a great place to stay as there is a cute coffee shop around the corner, delightful food carts about ten blocks or so away, and it's a short driving distance, depending on traffic, to many of the other neighborhood spots that make Portland a great city.
Thank you so much for everything and welcoming me into your beautiful home. You were extremely generous, helpful, and accommodating. Staying with you was a wonderful experience, and I highly recommend it to anyone. I really appreciate everything!
Thanks for your kind words, Joseph, I really appreciate the generous review!
Really nice place - although I could have sworn that it said on the description that there would be no one else staying in the other bedrooms downstairs, and it appears that the host lives downstairs. I may have misunderstood. Tom was friendly and also gave us our space when we needed it, and was very quiet. Be aware that the quiet hours at this house seemed to be between 10 p.m. and 7 a.m., which may be a bit early for some people. The backyard was lovely, and so was the home. Seems to be plenty of hot water for us to take two showers in the morning also. The neighborhood is very quiet, and seemed really safe. It's not quite as easy to get on and off the freeway as you might think, due to traffic, however there is a really awesome coffee shop right down the street with gluten free options called The Seven Virtues, which I think makes up for that :-) all in all, I believe that this is a really nice place for a mature couple or single person to stay. Was great to meet you Tom, thank you so much for the hospitality :-)
I booked Tom's place for my mother, who was visiting from Virginia. The room was all ready for her when she arrived, Tom had even added wonderful little touches to make her feel at home. He had local food magazines for her to read and a hot pot with tea and coffee set up.
The bed was warm and comfortable and Tom was jovial and made her feel right at home. If she can't stay with me then, Tom's is definitely the next best place to home!
Tom and housemates were super friendly. House is quiet, room is comfortable. Parking is fabulous. Tom's a very welcoming host! Thanks, Tom!
Tom was a welcoming host; I enjoyed getting to know him. His room is as described. Guests should know that the bath is not en suite, so although the private bath is only across the hall, they might wish to bring a wrap for the short trek. Even though Tom has three housemates, the place was very quiet--one hardly knew anyone else was there most of the time. The room is simple, but comfortable. Good reading light! No private entry. Proximity to Mt. Tabor Park is a big plus for those who like to exercise.
Thanks to Tom and his roommates, I could have a wonderful time in Portland!!
Tom is one of the most wonderful host I have ever met!!
He is so kind that he solved any problems that I had.
I could enjoy sightseeing in Portland and also spending time at Tom's house.
It takes 30min from Tom's house to downtown by bus, so you can get to anywhere conveniently.
Thank you so much, Tom!!
Tom was a fantastic host! The room was cozy and his place was in a super convenient location in SE Portland. Tom gave us great recommendations for what to do around the city and was very flexible with our check-in and check-out time. All the housemates were incredibly welcoming and we hope to stay here again on our next trip!
Tom was great! Kind and welcoming, always quick with the helpful advice of a local. You can certainly tell that Tom loves Portland through the excitement in his voice.
Great location right next to the 4 bus into downtown. The room was nice and private, clean, with a handy stocked closet. Would recommend again.
Tom made be feel very welcome and even let me do a small load of laundry upon arrival as I had spilled during my time on the coast. Most of the time I was gone, but Tom was pleasant and helpful every time I had a question or need--like a dollar for the bus or a banana for my smoothie--which I promptly replaced. The room was a perfect size for me and comfortable and clean. I really enjoyed the private bath which often doesn't come when renting just a room in a house. He and his roommates allowed me to make a morning green smoothie since I don't do coffee, and that made a big difference for me since I was there 10 days and eating out too much. His roommates were sweet too, the few times I had the opportunity to talk to them. Luckily it was very quiet at night since I am a light sleeper. So, I recommend staying with Tom and hopefully you might have sight-seeing time, unlike me, as Mt. Tabor is so close.
I have stayed multiple times at Tom's house, and I find the atmosphere to be most hospitable! He is a gracious host, interested in his guests. He is also a fine connoisseur of brews. I have known Tom for over 30 years, and he has never failed to be an engaging friend to (website hidden): He is a great cook, too.
I've known Tom for more than twenty years. He is a funny, lively, intelligent, generous and compassionate person. He is also a gracious hand thoughtful host, whose home is always clean and tidy, with or without guests around. He knows a great deal about Portland, especially about good places to eat and drink. As a native, he also knows a fair amount about Portland's history and geography, and has shown a willingness to share what he knows when asked. I would recommend his place to anyone who wants a relaxed, yet supportive host whose house is also a home.
