Staying on “Yota” in Rodney Bay Marina made for a nice holiday in Saint Lucia. Alessandro is a great host and gave us a good tour of the boat and its workings while Martina handled all the administrative matters. The 44 foot Beneteau sailboat featured a large cabin with galley in addition to 2 staterooms and 2 heads aft for our use. There were additional bunks forward that we didn’t use. Rodney Bay Marina was probably the nicest marina we had ever seen with 4 restaurants, bars, WIFI, a swimming pool, connections to various sightseeing tours and party boat charters, a couple of water taxis, ferries to Martinique, a market/liquor store, bank, and a standing group of taxis that will take you sightseeing, shopping, to the casino or into town. Best of all, the marina had large washrooms with flush toilets and hot showers that were for the exclusive use of the boat owners and guests. There was great security and friendly staff everywhere. And as a large marina deep in the island chain, we met lots of people from just about everywhere—the States, Europe, Asia. Some were sailing for a few weeks and others were cruising sailors that were living on their boats. A friendly crowd and everyone had a story to tell. That said, on this trip we used the sailboat as a floating hotel room and never left the dock. That approach worked great for us as we are experienced sailors but we just wanted to relax a bit and take it very easy. We wouldn’t recommend staying on a sailboat to someone who has not done it before as there are a number of systems on a boat that you must be comfortable with and at the end to the day it is boat living. Or put another way, boats are boats and require a bit of adjusted thinking regarding space use. But that’s all part of the fun and we would be delighted to return to Rodney Bay Marina and stay again on Yota.
Martina made us feel very welcome. She was very responsive to emails and helped make sure we had everything we needed. The villa is beautiful and the view is breathtaking.
The kitchen has everything you need and the bathtub is a nice plus.
Be sure and lock the doors as there construction workers working next door and there is not around the clock security.
My husband and I stayed in the n.1 guesthouse for four nights. The property is beautiful. We enjoyed having breakfast out on the terrace every morning. The view from there is into the city and part of the bay. The road up to the guesthouse is a little intimidating at first, but eventually you get used to it. I would recommend having a jeep to get up to the guesthouses. The communal kitchen had everything necessary for preparing meals (e.g., plates, utensils, mugs, cooking pans).
The unit itself was spacious. The bed was comfortable. We left the windows open the entire time and the unit stayed cool enough for us to be comfortable at night. We also made use of the mosquito net when sleeping.
The only improvement would be with the bathroom. It's not obvious from the picture, but the shower head is not upright. We had to "shower" holding the loose shower head in hand while sitting/crouching in the bath tub. There is also no shower curtain so you have to be careful water does not get everywhere.
We would absolutely stay there again. However, we would probably pick a different unit with a better shower option.
Martina was great with initial response and providing an option to stay in unit 7 on top of the hill apartments when the cabin on the sail boat was not available. The property was nice and had a cottage feel to it. There was an issue with double booking and midway through my stay I was ask to change units to one of the rooms in the main house with some shared accommodation which was a bit of a nuisance. Aside from that it was a positive experience.
We stayed for 2 weeks with our 2 kids and had a great time! The breezy veranda is a very pleasant place for breakfast and dinner (or to sleep!), the open kitchen functions as the central meeting point with the other guests.
Martina is handling all requests instantly - great, reliable Service.
We found the very quiet neighborhood safe and friendly.
Car is not really required if you can handle a 15 mins uphill walk from the junction in Gros Islet, where you can easily get into frequent public minibus-connections. For trips farther south than Castries, a rental car is the better option.
Definitely a good place to stay!
It was a lovely place with a lovely host and a rough road leading to it. We stayed in tini-tiny room nr 2 which opens from the common kitchen and its windows open to the foyer leading to the kitchen hence one can hear everything going on there. The walls were also thin, so privacy isn't plenty. Bathroom was in a separate small building for this room, but we were informed about it in advance. Also, it was a lovely one with lots of wood surfaces and a big tub, but we couldn't get the jets to work. Next time would probably choose an individually standing unit mainly for more privacy. The place was clean, people tidied up after themselves in the kitchen too, so totally happy there. Recommend to stay here if you're renting a car, it could be relatively difficult to move around especially if you are carrying stuff.
We stayed on the houseboat in Rodney Bay for 6 days during February.
One thing to understand is that this is a large sailboat, and although spacious, packing light would be smart.
If you're looking for a yacht, this is not that.
With that said, we had a fantastic time staying in Rodney Bay Marina. There were 2 of us on the boat; we traveled with 2 bags + 2 backpacks...everything fit comfortably. Martina was very helpful in arranging travel from UVF airport to the marina, and Floyd (driver) was prompt and professional with the pick up from the airport. We met the boat captain (Alessandro) in the marina where he gave us the tour of the boat. He was very attentive during our stay, making sure the boat's systems were in working order on a daily basis. To keep mosquitoes out, we kept the hatches closed during the day and opened them up after the sun went down. This helped keep everything nice and cool without collecting too many bugs, just be mindful if it rains at night, you'll end up with a wet face :) Rodeny Bay marina is charming and in the perfect location. The restaurants within the marina are great, and very accessible. Stop by Elena's for a cup of coffee or a pizza! Gros Islet is ~10 min walk, and is highly recommended for the Friday street party. Take a taxi to get there at night unless you are familiar with the area before hand though. Rodney Bay and Reduit Beach are ~15 mins walking, both great areas. If visiting Reduit Beach, check out Anne Marie's for lunch; its on the very southern point of the beach. I'd also highly recommend going to Pigeon Island National Park. We walked (~30-40 mins), but you could take a taxi. There is a park entrance fee, but its minimal and worth if for the view from the old lookout. To see the South (Soufriere, The Pitons, etc), I would suggest either arranging a boat taxi (available right in the marina) or working with Floyd to get a taxi to take you down that way.
Overall we had a wonderful time. The people are very friendly, and we found ourselves sad to leave the community that you seemingly become apart of while in the marina. We will miss all of our new friends and look forward to the next time we are able to visit!
Logement identique à l'annonce Airbnb, très bien reçu, check in tardif, mais le chauffeur de taxi (M. Floyd) savait où se trouvait les clés de la chambre. Aucune fausse note.
Allez-y!!!
We had a great stay at Martinas apartment. The apartment is very cosy and there is a nice Veranda to share. Martina always immediately got back to us when we were organizing our trip or had any questions. The view from the hill is great! It's possible to walk from to the apartment but a Little bit far. If you rent a car it's recommendable to take a jeep because the road up the hill is not that good and it's very steep. I woul defenitely recommend the Martinas apartment! Thanks again!
