Hi! I'm Paulo (33) and I'm an acoustical engineer (which has nothing to do with music, my work is really not that exciting...). I'm portuguese, but living in Düsseldorf. Living in central Europe do have its advantages: with just a 3 hour travel I can reach so many interesting cities, quite the opposite as when I was living in Porto. I like to travel, but I appreciate the cosiness of a home. That's why I prefer to stay in apartments and not in impersonal hotels. Also, I'm a good cook, and actually enjoy cooking, and I do enjoy a lazy morning when I just feel like staying late in bed and enjoy a late tasty breakfast at home.
My travel destinations are usually european cities. I'm a big fun of independent traveling. I like to make my own plans and decisions on what to visit and I often avoid the beaten track. Honestly... I dislike to be seen as a tourist and always try to fit in with the locals: that's how I believe one can better appreciate a city. But, whichever city I visit, there are some things I'll always enjoy: a good coffee, a good walk on a pleasant street or park, a visit to a colorful street market and a lazy morning reading the paper on a nice café.
Local knowledge is a valuable asset, so I always appreciate when hosts can hand me a few tips about the neighborhood, cool bars, places to visit, parks for a good stroll and so on (best grilled sea bass I ever tried was indicated to me by a airbnb host, on a restaurant I otherwise would never, ever, eat in).
Having me as a guest is... worry free: I won't give any trouble, will not upset the host with endless phone calls but I am a very communicative person so don't be surprised if I send an SMS thanking for a good tip and I will definitely call informing time of arrival, departure or any important detail I later remember. And I do try to make others feel comfortable in calling me should they need it and am most willing to share my tips about the places I've traveled to.
And finally: What is traveling for me? It's vacation, it's not work. So doesn't matter if I don't visit all I planned as long as I had a great time doing nothing! :)
