This is a very spacious, comfortable room loaded with charm and character in an old but renovated house situated relatively high on a hill with a northwest view toward Lake Como. The bed is very comfortable. The bathroom, which is shared with Simona, her partner, and his son, is right outside the bedroom door. Sharing was never a problem; I had to wait, and only for a moment, only twice during my entire 4-night stay. One thing that was not apparent to me from the photos of the bathroom as that the tub is not full-size. It is a sitting tub, about four feet long. I am 6' 3' and 220 pounds, so it was a little bit of a squeeze for me, but I managed just fine. It was kind of fun, actually. Simona's breakfasts were simple, but excellent--muesli, yogurt, fruit, toast, jam, juice, and coffee--and attractively presented. And Simona herself is friendly, charming, and helpful. Tell her when you will be arriving and she is happy to pick you up from the train station when and drive you up to the house. Even though my arrival plans were nebulous, and I had no mobile phone or wi-fi access leading up to my arrival, when I was finally able to borrow a mobile phone from a passer-by to call her, she dropped what she was doing and picked me up at the boat dock. And when my departure was on an early train, she happily agreed to move breakfast earlier and drive me down to the station. Her English, though not perfect, was easily good enough to communicate very clearly and carry on a social conversation. I cannot recommend Simona highly enough. Bellano is only a 4-minute train ride north of Varenna. The long stepped hike up to the house from the train station is easy to follow and is well-lit after dark. On the hike down, however, I kept taking a right turn, when crossing a street, when I should have taken a left, so I ended up at the other end of the downtown from the train station. But the downtown is small, so it's only an extra 3-4 minute walk to the station. But until you figure it out, give yourself some leeway for catching the train.
The house is beautiful and it seems from other reviews that Simona and Daniel are normally gracious hosts. They seemed like interesting and warm people but just didn't take my stay very seriously. There were a few issues but we never got to resolve them bc they were out of the house at 8:30 am and back at 10:30 pm. I think they were very busy because there was no breakfast, no orientation about basic things- wireless, kitchen, bathroom. They were nice enough to drive me to the beach where they offer kite surfing lessons and to the ferry early in the morning when I decided to leave early.
There was a bit of a lover's quarrel that I could hear in my room. Earlier that day, Simona also called my phone to talk to Daniel.
I gave 24 hrs notice via international text and we went back and forth on text but she didn't refund me bc she said it was not in her policy, which I never did find.
The 700 year old house is located very close to the beautiful Lake Como. There is a spectacular view of the lake from the bedroom window. Walking for a few minutes will take you to the centre of Bellano and from here you can either catch a bus, train or ferry to anywhere close by or the airport in Milano. The return walk up the hill takes abit longer, however there are many spectacular views to break up the trip if you prefer. This would be an excellent location up in the old town for travellers with a car, having said that... I managed to find my way around quite easily. Simone was very helpful offering me lifts in their car, especially an early morning drive to the railway station. Both Daniel and Simone are polite, helpful and charming: I would stay at this house again!!
John and I loved our stay with Simona and Daniel, and it was a treat to meet Jordan as well. Such a beautiful and spacious room, lovely breakfast, great location and view. We loved the quiet, laid back mood of Bellano and the vintage house. The climb up was a little hard on my father's gift of his creaky knees, but as soon as she knew, Simona made arrangements to offer rides to us after day's activities. It saved us, and was so good of her!! She also offered wonderful suggestions for touring the area, running us to ticket booths to find the exact scheduling information for day trips, and departure times. We had a complicated ferry/bus/train trip to Switzerland, but she made sure we were confident with the details. And speaking of details, Simona is an expert. Always with a cheerful smile, she took care of us in every way.She even washed, hung to dry and folded our laundry. She said it was my holiday and I should rest. I felt pampered. Daniel took us on his boat across the lake to the lovely little village of Santa Maria for a lovely visit, and then picked us up a few hours later. Our visit was oerfect.

tanks for all you are special!
Sissy's place was beautiful. The room was lovely with great views. The town was so cute and easy to access the other towns by train or ferry. She made me feel very welcome and I look forward to trying her newest listing in Brazil next.
Our stay at simona's house was great, we enjoyed it very much.
Simona is a lovely and helpful person, she gave us many tips for sight- seeing.
The room was very elegant and the bed comfortable. I like this vintage style very much and simona pays a lot of attention on details.
Thanks for the amazing time.

tanks guys i waiting in brazil..next time in my new home
My stay at Simona's was fabulous. I felt very well taken care of and I had sound sleep during my stay. She pays a lot of attention to detail, like having sweet smelling candles when I arrived, setting up a beautiful breakfast table with a cute teapot and teacups, and lovely towels. Her home is spacious and the interiors look like they came off a catalogue, I felt like I was staying in a palace. Simona goes above and beyond hosting, she picked me up from the train station in Bellano and then drove me to Lecco train station on departure. Although she has not set up her wifi yet, I had access to the Internet from her PC, otherwise it is very easy to get wifi connection in cafe's and restaurants.
Bellano is one stop on the train from the popular Varenna. Trains run every 30-60minutes. From Varenna you have access to other popular destinations within Lake Como such as Tremezzo, Bellagio, Villa Carlota. From Bellano train station it is a 20minute uphill walk to Simona's. Bellano has a grocery store, post office, cafe's and restaurants, little shops and occasionally there are street markets.
I can recommend Simona's place if you like to be away from the tourist hot spots for a bit of peace and quiet, and if you don't mind a little bit of exercise going up and down the hill to Simona's. She is a wonderful host

Tanks gayle all the best for you and i waiting in the future.
Our stay at Simonas place was wonderful. What a great location and very nice view on Lake Como. We really enjoyed our stay in Bellano as well as the talks we had with Simona. So we can recommend Simonas place.
Great room with lovely decorations. The view over Lake Como is quite spectacular. Sissy was a warm and friendly host, and she provided a lovely breakfast each day and good travel recommendations in the area.
It's a little bit of a trek up from the main area of Bellano, but nothing too difficult. Just nearby from the flat, there is a church which offers magnificent views over the lake.
I'm quite glad I chose to stay here!
Sissy was a great host and rescued us on arrival as we had taken the wrong road.
Interesting house dating back 700 years and set high above Lake Como offering wonderful views.
The decor is very eclectic and cleverly styled with Sissy's creative flair.
Thank you for our lovely stay :)
