We've been married 13 years. Dan is a transplant from CT and Jo Anne is a native of New Orleans. We love all things New Orleans - the food, the music, the festivals and especially the people.
We enjoyed a wonderful stay at The Pearl at Riverbend! Dan and Jo Anne are wonderful hosts. Their home has been beautifully restored and retains it's historic charm. The accommodations were spacious, spotless, and extremely comfortable. This is a wonderful location, with lots of options for dining within walking distance. The trolley on St. Charles is steps away. Thank you to our hosts for thinking of everything. There was even a new toothbrush and dental floss just in case we forgot ours. Wonderful bedding, quiet location, nice neighborhood. The only issue I would mention is that you have to walk through the second bedroom to get to the bathroom in the middle of the night. This is worth noting if privacy is an issue. This is normal in New Orleans Shotgun style homes, but might be a surprise to folks from other parts of the country. Do not hesitate to book your lodging with Dan and JoAnne. Fabulous!
Our stay at The Pearl was just wonderful! From the time I first found the property and reached out with a few questions to the moment we left, everything was great. Dan and Jo Anne were so welcoming and eager to give local insight to what we should do, where we should eat etc. The property was beautiful and impeccably clean. We could not have been happier with the overall experience. I absolutely recommend The Pearl to travelers. You won't be disappointed!
Lovely, comfortable, and who needs a kitchen when you're in walking distance of 57 restaurants! GREAT location- whether you have a car or not. Walk to Audubon Park, Maple Street, Oak Street. Dan and Jo Anne are a pleasure to deal with.
An absolutely wonderful place to stay—it felt like home away from home. It was cozy, clean, and had everything that you would need to make your stay comfortable. Dan and Jo Anne are wonderful hosts, very responsive and accommodating. I highly recommend it.
Elegant, convenient, comfortable: the Pearl is the place to stay. Dan and JoAnne have a beautiful , roomy haven out of the hustle of the tourist center, and just a block from the streetcar.
Joann couldn't have bee any nicer or a more gracious host. If you "know what it means to miss New Orleans", then you MUST stay at this shotgun in Uptown. I must be given 1st dibs on the place for all Tulane home football games once Yulman Stadium opens next year.
If you don't "know what it means" then you should stay here and learn.
All the rave reviews we read about The Pearl at Riverbend were true! It's hard to imagine more gracious, helpful hosts than Dan and Jo Anne, and the accommodations were first-rate: spacious, beautifully furnished, interesting artwork, comfortable bed, great bathroom, and all perfectly clean. We couldn't have had a nicer room (two, actually) in a 5-star hotel. Safe neighborhood, easy access to public transportation. Hosts' advice about restaurants, local sights, etc. all proved excellent. They truly love and know New Orleans, and seemed to genuinely enjoy sharing their knowledge and their lovely home. They even have a great dog, appropriately named Pearl! My husband and I can't wait to return.
This was the perfect place for my daughter and I to stay last month. We could catch the bus at the corner and were within walking distance of many places to eat and (website hidden) Anne and Dan were gracious hosts and gave us many ideas for places to see and things to do on our first trip to NOLA. Our rooms were spacious and had everything we needed. Thanks for a great time.
I don't have enough characters in this review to describe how amazing our experience was staying with Jo Anne and Dan in New Orleans!!
Their house was even more beautiful and conveniently located than described. Our accomodations were beautiful, clean, spacious and more than we could have asked for. It felt like home!
From the moment we walked in the door, to the day we left, both Jo Anne and Dan were there with very helpful advice, suggestions, friendly conversation and true southern hospitality!
I would recommend "The Pearl" to ANYONE looking to stay in New Orleans and enjoy the most beautiful part of the city!! We've traveled and lived all over the country, and this was by far our favorite place in the country! Planning our next trip back!
Dan and Jo Anne, thank you so much for providing such a beautiful and comfortable place for us to stay while in NOLA. You are both gracious hosts, full off great stories and knowledge about the area. You made our short visit that much more enjoyable! I hope we get to come back and spend more time soon!
Experienced airbnb hosts visiting from New Orleans for a wedding. I met them briefly on their arrival & they left the cottage in great shape! Hope they can come back some time & that I can visit their place in New Orleans!
Jo Anne is one of the sweetest people I know. Her house is charming and in a great location. She is an excellent tour guide and is extremely generous. I am looking forward to staying at her place the next time I am down in NOLA.
Dan and Jo Anne are close friends. Their accommodations are just lovely, truly a remarkable renovation 5 years ago. Their home is located in a safe and friendly neighborhood 1 block from the Street Car line. I highly recommend this property for anyone who wants a comfortable local experience of staying in a traditional double shot gun style home in one of the most beautiful sections of New Orleans, Uptown.
My husband stayed at Dan & Jo Anne's house last October (2011). The home is kept impeccably, the entrance is separate and the neighborhood is fantastic. Many wonderful sites and restaurants are walkable, they're close to the streetcar on St. Charles, and they are helpful in recommending anything a guest would want during their New Orleans experience! They're both so knowledgeable and hospitable, after we moved here in December I've recommended it to many friends & family members as a place to stay when they visit. It's an affordable way to visit this amazing city, and a more personable and fun way than at an infinitely more expensive and impersonal hotel. My husband left a 5-star review when he stayed there, and they're now dear friends. I can't recommend The Pearl enough.
I feel very comfortable recommending Dan and JoAnne as your future hosts: I work with Dan and know him as a very honest person. He is very conscientious. We became friends after he and Jo-Anne invited us to our first Mardi Gras Ball. My husband and I enjoy to be home, and we are not party goes, but let San and Jo-Anne say the word, and we are game. Dan and JoAnne are wonderful friends, generous and fun to be around. They never seem to lack energy. They are a gold mine as they know everything there is to know about the city. History, fun places to see, events... And they like to share their love for New Orleans: I know this first hand because I moved from France to New Orleans. Dan and Jo-Anne have introduced me to the Mardi Gras Balls, the parades, the food...
The house has been renovated by this dynamic couple with a great sense of detail and with respect to the history of their house. As it is a big double shotgun house, Dan and Jo-Anne decided half of the house would be more than enough space for both of them and Pearl, their sweet dog. They decided to open their beautiful home to guests, which is pretty easy to do with a double shot gun home, a typical Uptown New Orleans house, with a separate entrance: I think it is wonderful to offer people from other places the "shotgun experience". There is a distinctive cachet to it. The high ceilings let you breathe. The wood floors are warm and beautiful. The rental place is not only spotless and comfortable, but it is also furnished and decorated with great taste. The proximity to St. Charles Avenue makes it very convenient to hop on the street car to see the beautiful houses alongside St. Charles Avenue and get to the French Quarter.
Dan and JoAnne are the most exquisite hosts. There house is gorgeous and sits in a prime location. So don’t hesitate and choose the Pearl!
Dan and JoAnne were my neighbors several years ago, and will forever be my friends! They are some of the most caring, thoughtful people I know. Their house is extremely comfortable, conveniently located, and maintained at hotel-like standards. You will miss out if you don't meet these fine folks and stay in their lovely home!
I have been their guest and would recommend The Pearl at Riverbend to anyone looking to enjoy New Orleans from their comfortable and immaculate house that is just one block off St. Charles. There is the added bonus of many local restaurants (Jamila's is really great!), coffee shops and bars within easy walking distance of their home. Relax and enjoy!
