Vincent was very friendly, welcoming and responsive.
Great location in Oak Park - very safe and altogether a nice weekend. Would highly recommend!
Vincent was there to meet us at our agreed time, helped us move in, and explained where everything was, how it worked, how to get hold of him if necessary (was not), and the procedure for closing up when we left. The apartment is in a fantastic location for getting to the train to go downtown Chicago and, for us, a short distance from our daughter's house in Oak Park. We used to stay with our daughter when visiting, but we lost our bedroom to the arrival of our new grandson. Vincent's place was far better than a hotel room. In all honesty, we didn't make as much use of the apartment as most Airbnb visitors might as we spent most of our time with our daughter's family and basically just used the apartment for sleeping and breakfast. But it served our purposes perfectly. Oak Park has what can be some confusing parking restrictions, but Vincent explained them to us and offered a very reasonable alternative which we took advantage of. All in all, our first experience with Airbnb was a good one, and we will definitely consider using it again.
Beautiful Apartment in a great very central location. We loved being able to walk to the "L", tons of restaurants and shops are all nearby.
The listing description was accurate, with one exception. The condo is located in a lovely, safe, walkable neighborhood and we took advantage of this by walking to a cafe for morning coffee, and to the farmers' market on Saturday. The unit has been updated with modern appliances and central heat and A/C, and is in good condition. There is lots of natural light in the living/dining rooms, as pictured.
The one inaccuracy was parking: the listing, when I booked it, said there was free on-site parking. However, the morning of our arrival, the host texted that parking is $4 per day, which I'd need to pay him in cash upon arrival. I replied with a screenshot of the listing with free, on-site parking clearly marked. The host blamed airbnb for the error and gave several lengthy monologues to me and my husband about how the situation was actually my fault because I didn't inform him I'd need parking (I didn't think I needed to, as parking was free and on-site). Once we arrived, he seemed to have calmed a bit and didn't charge for parking. As it turned out, the parking space was nearly a block away, not on-site. The phone calls and texts from the host around this issue were incredibly unpleasant and were a negative start to our stay, and all for $16 in possible parking charges. Since our stay, the host has updated his listing to reflect NO free parking.
The host also asked us to enter covertly through the back staircase with our suitcases, and to lie to any neighbors who asked us about our relationship to the host by saying we were friends of his, rather than airbnb guests. He cited ongoing disagreements in his town and building about airbnb-type rentals as the reason, but it seems to me that sneaking around and lying about what he is doing is not the way to win over any opponents. Honesty is the best policy!
Overall, the condo was reasonably comfortable (it'd be great to have a small sofa instead of single chairs, the mattress is exceptionally firm, and we awoke to the upstairs neighbors' shower before 6am each weekday morning). But given all the drama that came with it, we wouldn't choose to stay there again.
We loved staying in Oak Park! It was a semi- long train ride (30min) outside of the city, but has a lot to offer. We felt very safe in the neighborhood and it was a great place to go for a run (tons of beautiful homes to look at and some nice parks). The condo was clean and as pictured with everything we needed to have a comfortable stay.
Vincent was a great host. Met us on time and gave us the grand tour of the apartment. The space is exactly as expected. Very clean and well appointed, we felt like we were part of the city. An easy walk to anything oak park has to offer and it's just as quick to the L trains. Next time we head back to Chicago we hope their apartment is available again.
Our host greeted us warmly upon arrival and explained all the details about the condo. The condo is lovely and updated; the kitchen is granite and the bathroom is newer. The building is vintage and in walking distance to train and the historic district. Free internet and Netflix. There is a parking space also. It is close to the condo and very convenient. Overall, we enjoyed staying here and plan to stay here again.
Vincent has set my expectations very high for all future Airbnb experiences. My original reservation for a different Airbnb listing in Chicago was canceled by the Host about two weeks out from my arrival due to circumstances beyond either of our control, so my search became more urgent to secure a place for me and my 9 y/o son and stay within our budget.
Vincent accepted our reservation request despite it being squeezed in between two other reservations that bookended our stay which then required a very quick turnaround on his part to ready his loft for our stay and for the subsequent reservation after us.
Communication with Vincent was excellent. He proactively contacted me a couple of days in advance to gauge our arrival time and he made it clear that we could contact us at any time during our stay. There was no need to contact him during our stay, but it's good to know he is accessible should anything arise.
We met Vincent at the lift where he walked through all the pertinent information about his loft, also including generals and specifics about the neighborhood, including where to go for the train (so convenient!) and shops and restaurants to consider while staying there.
We arrived by car and Vincent was able to provide us with an off-street parking option. I was fascinated with the location of the parking spot--it was convenient and our car stayed put during our time in Chicago.
As for the loft itself, it is as described and shown. My son admired the technology (huge screen TV, apple TV and wifi) and I loved the comfort of the air conditioner.
So it sort of goes without saying that we had an amazing experience with Vincent and his beautiful listing. I have already recommended his listing to friends I know who are planning visits ti Chicago. I would love to go back with my husband to see the sights I was unable to see, and when I do go back, I will schedule my visit around this listing's open dates.
I enjoyed meeting Vincent and staying in his comfortably cozy one-bedroom apartment in Oak Park. His charming home is located across the street from the Ernest Hemingway Museum and one block from Hemingway’s childhood home, which is open to tourists. The subway station is only two blocks away, and for merely three dollars you can be in downtown Chicago in less than 30 minutes. Many urban ‘luxuries’ are found in this quaint neighborhood: Starbucks, Trader Joe’s, Whole Foods, Amour de la Terre. Moreover, Vincent's kind and efficient manner immediately put me at ease. He made it clear that should I need to reach him (I didn't), he was only a text or phone call away. Vincent’s apartment is perfect for anyone looking for a private, safe, and quiet home while visiting the Chicago area. Thank you, Vincent, for providing me with a worry-free get-away!
Vincent was a super host. We loved the apartment and the neighbourhood is beautiful. Lovely restaurants, we really liked Maya. Great location & public transport to downtown.
Vincent was very nice and respectful. We would welcome him back anytime.
Very nice guests, very clean and good communicators. Thank you.
Vincent and Ned were great guests. It was my first experience hosting a guest with a pet, but Ned (the dog) was exceptionally well-behaved. He rarely barked and I often forgot that he was even there.
Vincent was extremely quiet and thoughtful, but equally personable and engaging. We had some great conversations and sometimes I felt that he knew more about the Traverse region than I do (and I've lived here all of my life). When I mentioned that the power drive was broken on my mower, he insisted on mowing my lawn before he left. Wow - maybe I should pay him to come and visit me again. Needless to see - I would highly recommend Vincent and Ned as Airbnb guests!
Just a quick stay for Vincent...late night arrival and early morning departure. He was respectful, pleasant and even removed the sheets from the bed. A positive guest experience.
Vincent stayed with Bill at the ranch. He was a wonderful guest and even helped out around the place. He is so full of Life and information. Bill and I loved meeting him!
Victor was a great guest! He was tidy and picked up after his dog (Ned). Victor even mowed my lawn because he likes working in the yard. It was a very nice surprise!
