Hey, I’m Gina!

Santa Cruz, California, United States · Member since January 2014

Please allow me to introduce myself, my name is Virginia but all my friends call me Gina, I hope you do as well. I am a young spirited 'chronologically older' woman who achieves contentment by surrounding myself with young, energetic people; I take classes at the local college and plan to volunteer as a Pediatric Drama Therapist in the near future. I love the concept of a self sustainable life styles and hope to build my own little rammed earth home in some Caribbean island, where I can dip my toes in warm water and get a never ending tan. I believe that dreams come true and that everyday is a miracle. Home for the last 16 years has been Santa Cruz, California, a laid back, all accepting diverse community which prides itself in being involved in social justice issues and which is overflowing with artistic, spiritual people making this little Central California coastal town a little gem and hard to leave behind. We have forests with thousands year old Sequoias and beaches loaded with surfers anytime of day or night, downtown is packed with UCSC's (University of California in Santa Cruz) national and international students, and the sounds of all kinds of different musics permeate the air. The weather is a never ending Spring and dancing seems the favorite all around passion for young and old alike. The beach is a short 10 minute walk but I refuse to put a wet suit in order to deal with the freezing cold water, thus my love for the Caribbean. I love to go to the Theater, Art exhibits, check out all kinds of music, watch good Indie movies, specially foreign. Now that I am more free to do so, I look forward to traveling as much as finances permit, to explore new places, go where the locals go, taste their foods and learn their customs. So far I have visited El Salvador once, Mexico 4 times, Cuba twice, cruised to Jamaica and a few of the Caribbean islands on a 6 day cruise, and stayed three times in Dominican Republic for 3 weeks. I look forward to going to Costa Rica, Spain and Bali within the next 5 years, part of fulfilling my 'Bucket List'. Having been a Social Worker I am comfortable around almost everybody, fit in well in most social environments and I pride myself for being open to diversity and respectful of everyone's belief systems. I am down to earth and feel comfortable in humble, clean, insect free surroundings as well as 5 *s hotels if finances permit, although I love to live as the locals do. I love to leave the dwellings my hosts so gracefully provide for me as immaculate as when I first walked through their door. For the last 5 years I have been a Voted Board Member for United Way assisting in FEMA fund distribution to local non profits which deal with homeless issues, prevention and provisions; last year I was also on the Board of NextstAge Productions, a non profit providing performance training workshops and showcasing talent for folks 50 and over. I tend to stretch myself too thin, so I am taking time for myself lately more often. All in all I have a full life, a 46 year old daughter who lives in Fort Lauderdale with my 14 year old grand daughter, I had her at 17, and another daughter who is 36 and lives closer to me, and who shares my love for costume design and Burning Man celebrations. I am a truly blessed woman and believe in the motto of 'do onto others as you would like others to do onto you.' I have used Airbnb three times and loved my hosts who were extremely pleased as I left their places immaculate upon my exiting, and although I was seldom around for when I travel so briefly I basically come to the room to shower and sleep, we were still able to get acquainted and have pleasant exchange of ideas. My experiences with Airbnb have been beyond my expectations although both places I stayed at were the least expensive I could find, I had great hosts. I look forward to meeting you and having a mutually rewarding experience as well. I am independent and I fully understand hosts also have other obligations which might not make them accessible most of the time, and am pretty self reliable. My ideal vacation is laying on white sand and swimming in clear warm waters so that is where I would be going most of my days as the budget is tight. If both of our agendas permit and you are inclined to share some of your time, this will be welcomed as well but definitively not expected. Thank you for taking the time to read such an extensive self description. I hope you continue to have wonderful Airbnb experiences and that I might be one you may remember in a very pleasant way.
Namaste, Gina
