We arrived to NY expecting to have the same AIRbnb experience that we have enjoyed over the last few years using the service. I must say that this trip was not like other stays I have experienced.
I spoke with Maya and they said that they were in process of moving and that there may be a few boxes in the corner, no big deal I thought. We are only going to be back late and get up for ToyFair early, we are really looking for a bed to stay in not a luxury apartment to lounge in all day. Also I was told that there would be a key for me at the front desk and that it will be under my name. I was told NOT to mention AIRBnb as the apartment complex does not allow that service, but to just tell them that I am a friend staying. Not a big deal, not the first time it has happened with a rental. The problems began when i arrived, after checkin time (so I wasn't too early), the front desk had no key for me and no knowledge I was coming. I had to call Maya and her husband more than once to get them on the phone so I could get a key released to me.
After that the experience got worse. I will just list the items to save word count for the review. I wish I could upload pictures.
- Messy Apartment, stuff everywhere, dresser drawers open, box of condoms open in the bedroom
- The Bathroom was a disaster.
- The sheets were clearly not washed prior to our arrival. Hair was on the pillows and in the sheets.
-The fridge was packed full of stuff, we could literally fit one water bottle in and didn't even like doing that.
- Honestly it looked like I was crashing at a college buddy's place and they just left to go to a party, or one happened there.
- The apartment smells of Indian food. I'm not saying this to be mean, it's just fact. We smelled it when we got off the elevator and commented on how strong the smell was, only to find out it was coming from the apartment we were staying in. We had to wash everything when we got back home, jackets, gloves, hats, everything, we Frebreezed our luggage and left it out side for a few days to air out.
Maya was responsive to our concerns and we arrived at an acceptable compromise. The location is great. A few blocks form Penn Station, the Javits, and tons of places to eat.
Would I stay here again?
Simply No. I feel like there are better options for a few dollars more. I know that now and will use them for our visits in the future.
My sisters and I spent New Year’s in New York and we felt very welcomed when we stayed a Maya’s. The listing described the apartment perfectly. It was just the right size for the 3 of us. We felt comfortable, safe, and the neighborhood was in a perfect location. We were in walking distance of great restaurants, shopping, transportation, shows, and Times Square. Maya’s place would receive a TOP rating from us. Thank you!!
Wonderful apartment in an amazing location. Maya was a fantastic host and even sorted out breakfast for us! Just around the corner from Times Sq and walking distance to pretty much everything. Gorgeous apartment in a lovely building. Thank you Maya!
Nice and cozy house in great neighborhood! Everyone in the house was really friendly and helpful. I really enjoy my time in San Francisco.
Maya was awesome. We had a wonderful time chatting with her throughout her stay, and even walking to coffee nearby. It's only too bad that her visit was so short. We would gladly host her again.
Oh Maiya! Never a sour moment with this ball of energy and brightness... Always smiling and happy, she felt more like a roommate or friend than a guest :) Would be happy to host her and recommend her as well!!
